Well, we are getting into that time of year again, Award Season.
The nominations were announced yesterday for the 2015 Emmy Awards. So in the spirit of celebrating the best of the best television out there, we’re going to recap the nominees and give you guys our predictions for the winners!
Outstanding Drama Series
Better Call Saul
Downton Abbey
Game of Thrones
Homeland
House of Cards
Mad Men
Orange is the New Black
And the winner is…
Even with all the backlash from this season, we’re going to have to go with Game of Thrones. Yes, there was definitely a few plot elements we could live without but between the White Walkers, the Sand Snakes and the rise of Daenerys’ dragons, we’re sold.
Jon Hamm, Mad Men
Kevin Spacey, House of Cards
Bob Odenkirk, Better Call Saul
Jeff Daniels, The Newsroom
Kyle Chandler, Bloodline
Liev Schreiber, Ray Donovan
This is an easy one—I mean, did you ever watch Breaking Bad? We’re going to give it to Bob Odenkirk from Better Call Saul. Full disclosure, I’ve never watched the spinoff, but I’m assuming it’s amazing.
Lead Actress In A Drama Series
Clare Danes, Homeland
Viola Davis, How to Get Away With Murder
Taraji P. Henderson, Empire
Tatianna Maslany, Orphan Black
Elisabeth Moss, Mad Men
Robin Wright, House of Cards
Repping an amazing Canadian show and actress, my money’s on Tatianna Maslany and her role as pretty much everyone in the Space Network show Orphan Black. If you’ve never heard of it before, Tatianna literally plays (at last count) six of the main roles, who just happen to all be clones.
Louie
Modern Family
Parks and Recreation
Silicon Valley
Transparent
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
Veep
And the winner is…
This is right is a toughy for us. The last season of Parks and Recreation was everything you wanted it to be (if you’re a diehard fan), by Veep is always on point and Silicon Valley hit its stride this season. But if you’re going to make us choose our money is on Parks and Recreation, I mean Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, no, no wait, it’s gonna be Veep… can’t they just share?
Lead Actress In A Comedy Series
Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Veep
Edie Falco, Nurse Jackie
Lisa Kudrow, The Comeback
Amy Poehler, Parks and Recreation
Amy Schumer, Inside Amy Schumer
Lily Tomlin, Grace and Frankie
LESLIE KNOPE FOR PRESIDENT! Or at least, Amy Poehler for Lead Actress in a Comedy Series! Although we wouldn’t turn our noses up to the one and only Julia Louis-Dreyfus.
Louis C.K., Louie
Don Cheadle, House of Lies
Jeffrey Tambor, Transparent
Anthony Anderson, Blackish
Will Forte, The Last Man On Earth
Matt LeBlanc, Episodes
Now, this is not one to watch with the kids, but we think Don Cheadle and House of Lies deserve a little recognition for being one of the funniest—although super dark—comedies on television at the moment.
The Colbert Report
The Daily Show
Jimmy Kimmel Live
Last Week Tonight
Late Show with David Letterman
The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon
We’ll be super surprised if David Letterman doesn’t win this one. It was his last year on air and we just can’t see the award committee being willing to snub him on this one. Although, it’s also the last season of The Colbert Report… nope, our bet is on Late Show with David Letterman this time.
Outstanding Reality Competition Program
The Voice
Top Chef
Dancing With the Stars
The Amazing Race
So You Think You Can Dance
Project Runway
I think this list is severely lacking when it comes to Bachelor/Bachelorette entries but okay fine. If I have to choose from the list provide, I guess I’d have to go with The Amazing Race—travel, action and a bit of drama. It really does have it all.
Because I don’t watch miniseries, I don’t feel equipped to weigh in on them, but here are the nominees for those of you do! (But for the record, The Honorable Woman, for everything!)
Outstanding Limited Series
American Crime
American Horror Story: Freak Show
The Honorable Woman
Olive Kitteridge
Wolf Hall
Outstanding Actor in a Mini-series or Movie
Richard Jenkins, Olive Kitteridge
David Oyelowo, Nightingale
Adrien Brody, Houdini
Mark Rylance, Wolf Hall
Ricky Gervias, Derek
Outstanding Actress in a Mini-series or Movie
Maggie Gyllenhaal, The Honorable Woman
Jessica Lange, American Horror Story: Freak Show
Felicity Huffman, American Crime
Queen Latifah, Bessie
Frances McDormand, Olive Kitteridge
Emma Thompson, Sweeney Todd, The Demon Barber of Fleet Street Live from Lincoln Center
