In an effort to stretch his less-than 15 minutes of fame and after expressing interest in life beyond the pool (anyone recall his “bid” to be the next Bachelor?) Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte (28) is finally getting his own show.
Premiering in April on E! the six-episode reality show will be called What Would Ryan Lochte Do?
According to Entertainment Weekly it will “take viewers inside the unpredictable and offbeat life of the 2012 London Olympic Games’ breakout star.” We get to watch Lochte as he hunts for the “right gal” and “continues his training regimen.”
Ok, that’s interesting…I guess?
Now, just because he can swim, does not mean he’ll make good TV. But then again, we have Honey Boo-Boo and Jersey Shore raking in the ratings so perhaps this is exactly the type of show that people want to see these days.
After all, this is the man who has been described as a “male version of Jessica Simpson” and “America’s Sexiest Douchebag” . He could provide some awkward TV moments to say the least.
“How many people fall in love with the smartest guy in the class? They fall for the fastest swimmer,” E! President Suzanne Kolb told EW.
I guess we’ll find out!
In lieu of a trailer, here’s a little sample of how Ryan appears on camera in various interviews. It should give you a flavour of what you can potentially expect from his show.
So the question is…will you be watching?
Julie says
omg, that’s what i thought. he’s sooo dreamy…and then he spoke 🙂
Katya says
Sarah, too funny! He suffers from the “Beckham” curse: best to not ever hear him speak.
Although Beckham is a style God and wouldn’t be caught dead wearing red leather!
Katya says
So much pressure for US Olympians to monetize their medals. You spend most of your young life being in the pool but that has a short life. You need to think about next career. And I guess they figure fame is the easiest thing.
Sara says
not in a million zillion trillion years. God – I thought he was SO hot until he opened his mouth and wore that leather outfit.
Julie says
i kinda feel sorry for this guy. he’s “just” an athlete…do athlete-y things! be great at that!
but the media and agents and everyone has this bizarre need to make people more than they are or can be. i just don’t understand this north american quest for fame.
