I’m no parent but I imagine no handbook can really prepare you for all unexpected challenges of parenthood, especially if you’re new to the club. Everyday comes with it’s new set of challenges, big or small, and everyday is a new learning experience. But unfortunately for new celebrity parents, one wrong move and suddenly you’re being scrutinized by the entire world.
Just last month, one of our favourite new dads, Ryan Reynolds fell victim to exactly that. On Father’s Day, his wife Blake Lively shared a picture of him holding their newborn daughter James in a baby carrier. What was supposed to an adorable picture of the new dad and his tiny tot, ended up igniting an online firestorm.
According to thousands of commentators, the carrier wasn’t being worn properly, which had many expressing their concern for the baby’s comfort.
“Please read your baby product manuals with as much detail as you read a script,” read one comment. “Please have hot hubby read the instruction manual,” said another.
Now finally in a recent interview, Reynolds opened up about the mishap in the best, most humble way. “The baby is not properly secured in the vessel that I’m wearing there,” he admits. “I’m a first-time dad and that is not the first mistake I’ve made and I can guarantee it won’t be the last.”
Reynolds reassured that since the photo was published on Instagram, James has been carried properly in her baby carrier ever since. “I had never used that particular carrier before so every other time it’s been perfect,” he says.
You live and you learn, right? While that’s not a very easy thing to do in the public eye, especially as a new parent, as long as you try your best and there’s unconditional love involved — what more can we ask for?
