Say what???
Yes, what I am about to tell you is a true story. This is what went down.
On Friday, Oscar winner Reese Witherspoon (37) was driving with her husband CAA agent Jim Toth (42) in Atlanta, Georgia where she is currently filming a movie. His car was pulled over by police after it was spotted driving in the wrong lane.
As the officers were about to arrest him for driving under the influence (DUI) and failure to maintain a lane while driving, Witherspoon did not sit by quietly. Instead, she got into a war of words with the arresting officer.
What resulted was one of the more entertaining police reports I read in a while. According to the police report:
“Mrs, Witherspoon began to hang out the window and say that she did not believe that I was a real police officer. I told Mrs. Witherspoon to sit on her butt and be quiet.”
It gets better. The report goes on to say that the officer grabbed her arms to arrest her while Toth tried to calm her down, when:
“Mrs. Witherspoon asked “Do you know my name?” I answered “No, I don’t need to know your name.” I then added ‘right now.’ Mrs. Witherspoon stated, “You’re about to find out who I am.”
Oh no she didn’t! Reese Witherspoon actually used the “Do you know who I AM?” line!
“Mrs. Witherspoon also stated ‘You are going to be on national news.’ I advised Mrs. Witherspoon that was fine.”
The result? Witherspoon ended up on the news by also getting arrested – for disorderly conduct.
The couple were realeased on bond at 3:30 am Friday morning and are scheduled to appear in municipal court at 8am Monday. Or, most likely, their lawyers will be the ones appearing instead.
