Preteen Dream

June 13, 2013 by Amanda 7 Comments

When I was 12, I burned all my allowance up on the latest issues of “Bop” magazine, feverishly combing their pages for new photos of my love: Jonathan Taylor Thomas.

We really had something.

I would tape his posters to my wall and give his glossy smile a kiss each night before bed, where I would dream of meeting him. I knew in my heart that if he could only meet me, we would surely fall in love and he would be mine forever.

(I was overweight, covered in acne, and didn’t know how to use a tampon yet. Totally girlfriend material.)

Alas, we never got to meet. And he missed out on his best life. Hahahaa!

His loss. I wonder where he ended up. Bald and fat and working at a boring job? Or did he manage to save up some of his child-star income and carve out a semi-posh existence?

Who were your preteen celebrity crushes? Were you as obsessed and stalker-ish as I was? Please say yes.

Yup. Bought them all too. No idea who your fella there is (but there’s a fairly good chance you’re younger than me) but for me it was David Bowie, Billy Idol, Simon LeBon, Val Kilmer.

Jason Bateman is awesome. I didn’t care for him really at the time, but love him now.

Oh gosh, when I think of all the money I spent on ALL those magazines… I’d have been a very rich lady, had I not. I loved them all… but Johnny Depp had to be my most swoon-worthy.

I LOVED John Taylor of Duran Duran. Like, painfully.

I remember it well! I was more of a Simon LeBon fan, myself 😉
