Devastating news for Kelly Rutherford.
The Gossip Girl star has officially lost custody of her two children—son Hermés, 9 and daughter Helena, 6—after a three year battle with ex-husband Daniel Giersch.
Full custody has been granted to Giersch by a Monaco judge and as things stand, Rutherford will not be able to bring her children to the United States again.
Her children have been living with Giersch overseas since 2012. Both parents will continue to make decision concerning their children, Rutherford is “only permitted to ‘exercise her visiting and accommodation rights exclusively in France and Monaco.’”
Her children spent this past summer with Rutherford in New York. But the actress refused to send them back to France to be with their father. And that is when the trouble really began.
Because she acted against the court’s ruling, it is believed that the judge felt he had no other choice but to ensure the kids remain in France with their father.
We can only imagine how heartbroken Rutherford must be.
In all honesty, we can see how this three year battle and the extended time away from her children drove her to try to take the law into her own hands. But sadly, that act of rebellion might have been the final straw for the judge.
Our thoughts are with Rutherford during this difficult time.
