Halle Berry is making her message loud and clear—don’t mess with her daughter’s hair.
Berry took her ex Gabriel Aubrey to court on Monday over allegations that he is trying to make their six-year-old daughter Nahla look “more white”.
According to TMZ, Berry became furious after learning Aubrey was straightening their daughter’s curly brown hair and trying to lighten it with highlights. She is accusing the French-Canadian model of trying to make their daughter look less African-American.
According to Berry’s testimony attained by the Daily Mail, she says she began noticing changes in her daughter’s hair back in August 2013, after visits with Aubrey. When Berry confronted her ex, she says he continually denied her accusations. Then after months of growing speculation, in June 2014 Berry says she took strands of Nahla’s hair from her brush and sent them to a laboratory. The results confirmed her suspicions, proving that Aubrey had not been truthful about tampering with their daughter’s hair. A source also told the Daily Mail that as soon as Berry filed the court papers, Nahla’s curls came back.
Now because of all this, Berry now worries that Aubrey may have caused “‘potential psychological and physical damage” towards their daughter which may later make her question “why her natural appearance is not good enough.”
After a court session on Monday, the judge ruled that from now on neither Berry or Aubrey are allowed to manipulate Nahla’s hair in any way and that it remain in it’s natural state and colour.
This is one of many nasty court battles between Berry and Aubrey since separating back in 2010. Back in 2011, Aubrey allegedly called Berry the N-word during a custody battle over their daughter Nahla. As if that wasn’t bad enough, in 2012 Aubrey got into a physical altercation with Berry’s now husband Oliver Martinez, which left the Canadian model with a swollen black eye and cuts to his face.
We all know separations can get messy and this one is no exception. But for the sake of everyone involved, especially Nahla, we hope these two can work things out.
