Sound the alarm everyone: Madonna’s 15-year-old son, Rocco, has blocked her Instagram. And while most of us would just shrug and nod—what else are 21-year-olds supposed to do to their parents—people are speculating that this block may be more than a teenager being a teenager.
Madonna is currently embroiled in a stressful custody battle for Rocco with her ex-husband and director Guy Ritchie. So when rumours started to circulate that Rocco blocked is mother on Instagram, people started to wonder if this was her son’s take on the custody battle.
Rocco has an impressive 140,000 followers. He currently follows his dad as well as his stepmom on Instagram. But Madonna isn’t on his list.
The rumours started to build over the holidays when the pop singer posted a photo of herself and her son on her Instagram page.
Sources say that Rocco wanted to move to the UK with their father to find more stability. With the busy tour schedule that the Queen of Pop manages, it seems understandable that the teens might be looking to settle down into a more “normal” family life.
Over the Christmas break, the 56-year-old singer insisted that her son return to New York to spend the holidays with her family. When the teenager refused to leave Ritchie’s London home, Madonna took the matter to court. They agreed that Rocco should be in New York with his mom—against his own wishes. Pretty rough for a 15-year-old who is most likely looking for his own autonomy at this stage in his life.
So basically, Rocco (a teenager) and his mom aren’t getting along. Coupled with an ongoing custody battle and the fact that both parents are celebrities, this Instagram block might become the one heard around the world.
Over here at UrbanMoms HQ though, we’re just sticking with our plan to never “friend” our kids on social media—mostly to spare our own feelings!
