As most of you have probably heard by now, sparks are flying between new American Idol judges Mariah Carey (42) and Nicki Minaj (29). And I don’t meet the loving kind.
In case you’ve missed it, Minaj apparently threatened to “knock out” Carey at the North Carolina auditions for the show. TMZ has also obtained a video in which Minaj says:
“I told them, I’m not f—in’ putting up with her f—ing highness over there. Figure it the f—out. Figure it out”.
And everyone has an opinion. Here’s the rundown:
Barbara Walters on The View (after speaking with Carey by phone):
“Nicki walked off the set and multiple people heard Nicki say ‘If I had a gun, I would shoot the b—-. Carey can’t take a chance and has hired extra security. Nicki has not apologized and since then they have been together at meetings with producers and judges. After meeting, Nicki said ‘I love you but we might fight again’ and Mariah responded ‘No, we will not.’
Minaj on Twitter responding to Walters:
“Hey yAll. Lets just say nicki said smthn about a gun. ppl will
believe it cuz she’s a black rapper. Lmao. I’ll then hit up Barbara n milk it.“
Steven Tyler (64) former Idol judge was asked by TMZ if he thought it was a ploy for publicity because ratings for the show have been declining the last couple of years:
“Of course, are you kidding?”
The Voice judge Cee Lo Green (38) agrees:
“This is Hollywood, California. Hardly anything’s legit.”
Carey’s husband, Nick Canon (31):
Idol host Ryan Seacrest (37) said on his radio show that the show needs passionate debate.
American Idol producers issued this statement:
“This is one of the best, most passionate, dynamic and invested judging panels we’ve ever had. We love and support all of the judges and the fantastic work they are doing, and we can’t imagine a better group to find the next American Idol.”
There is one person that’s missing from this list that I’d love to hear from. In all this drama, it’s been all but forgotten that there’s another new judge on the show. Just look at the publicity photo I’ve posted. Wouldn’t you love to know how Keith Urban (44) is finding it being sandwiched on the panel between two warring divas?
Fake or real…pick any side. All I will say is that this is the best pre-publicity this show’s had in years. This translates into good ratings once the show airs. The only clear winner here is the Fox network.
