Having just returned from a sneak peek of the upcoming Heartbeat of Home: A Dream Voyage I can tell you it’s a real treat! This heart-stopping performance will leave you with that feeling of charged up energy. Forget the caffeine! You won’t need it after seeing the show, but I suggest you nab tickets to this brand new dance production ASAP! I’m telling you now because the media room was full today and they will all be reporting on this in the next couple of days. You’ll thank me for telling you now before the tickets all sell out!
Heartbeat of Home will take centre stage from January 21 to March 2 in Toronto with Mirvish Productions. This is the North American premiere after the wildly successful and sold out run in Ireland and China.
“Toronto is a great city and it’s certainly one of our favourites. We’ve been here many times and it’s always a warm welcome.” said John McColgan, Producer of Heartbeat of Home. “This is our biggest opening for North America so far.”
If it looks a little like another high energy dance production…you’re right! Created by the Producers and Directors of Riverdance, this new show takes dance to another level. What’s different about this show is the blend of other dance styles with the traditional Irish dancing. Sexy and beautiful Latin moves are stunning to watch while the Afro-Cuban influences brings great imagination into the fold. Street dance styles also bring a fresh urban tone.
The cast of dancers come from all over the world including several from Canada. Fred Nguyen of Vancouver is one of the original cast members of Heartbeat of Home. His personality shines on and off stage. Having had a chance to chat with Fred was great fun! I loved hearing about his passion for dance. “I fell in love with Irish dancing when I was really young and I’m very happy that it’s now my full time job.” said Nguyen. “I also love hip hop and I’ve tried contemporary ballet but Irish dancing is my first love. It’s been my passion ever since I was nine!”
Heartbeat of Home includes an incredible cast of 37 dancers and a ten-piece band. The music from the show also features the hit song “Lead Me Home” by American Idol Jessica Sanchez.
The show runs from January 21 to March 2 at The Ed Mirvish Theatre (244 Victoria Street, Toronto). Ticket prices range from $35 to $130. Perfect for all generations! For more information or to purchase tickets, visit www.mirvish.com
The show will then move onto Chicago, Detroit, Boston, New York and Los Angeles.
I can’t wait!!! It’s got everything I love in the always powerful Riverdance productions combined with electrifying world flavour. Here’s a little taste of what to expect…
