The Real Shaving Contest!

September 6, 2010 by shawnd

IMG_1722.JPG

Picture this ‘hypothetical’ situation: a Dad, let’s call him Shawn, is playing with his daughter one afternoon.  Let’s call her Pea.
As their fun carries on, Shawn initiates a Tickle Attack on Pea, including a series of hilarity-educing raspberries (a.k.a. blowing on the belly).  While they are a mainstay of any well-executed Tickle Attack, these raspberries have the unfortunate tendency to cause rashes when perpetrated by adult males.
The culprit?  Stubble.  Five o’clock shadow.  Workday whiskers.  The devil’s refuse.
Ok, I made those last two up, for dramatic effect.  But you get the point.
Stubble burn on my little girl is not an uncommon occurrence.  Not a day goes by that a simple kiss to Pea’s cheek doesn’t result in some kind of bumps, so for the past 2+ years I have been searching high and low for a better shaving experience.
I have tried numerous shaving creams and razors.  Some would provide a fairly close shave, but leave my own sensitive skin covered in bumps and lumps.  Others would leave me feeling as though I hadn’t shaved at all.

Evolution Shaving Kit.jpg

Then, one morning, I tried The Real Shaving Company products for the first time.  I started with the pre-shave ‘Hot Towel Mask.’  This is a cream that you apply to your beard before shaving, to loosen and soften the hairs and prepare them for shaving.  Then, I used their shaving lotion for sensitive skin.
Even with a dull blade, this was the closest shave I have ever given myself. There was no irritation.  No razor burn.  Just baby-ass-like smoothness.  By 6pm that evening, when my face was still as soft as the minute I finished shaving, I realized I had to share this secret with others.
So I contacted The Real Shaving Company, and they’ve agreed to provide five “Ultimate Shaving Kits” for five lucky UrbanMoms members!  These kits include a Hot Towel Mask, Face Scrub, Shaving Cream and Soothing Balm.  They are amazing.
To enter “The Real Shaving Contest,” simply leave a comment at the end of this post letting me know what you do to get your kids to laugh during a Tickle Attack.  Easy-peasy.
Unsure as to whether you should enter?  Ok, I will remind you that stubble rashes aren’t solely the domain of our children.  Lest I be too coy, a close shave on you (guys) or your man (ladies) will also prevent unfortunate skin irritation whilst, you know, making hanky-panky.  That’s right, I’m using the sex argument to get you to enter the contest.
The Real Shaving Contest closes on September 20, 2010.  And remember, only UrbanMoms.ca members are eligible to win so don’t forget to sign-in.  Not a member yet?  Click here to sign-up.

I do 2 things, both of which get a great response:
    1. “the claw” I assume various martial arts stances and hook my first 2 fingers like claws. There’s lots of spinning and jabbing at ticklish spots. Oh, and lots of “hi-ya’ and ‘waaaahhhh”.
    2. In a different tickling game, one the victim is on the ground :-D, I extend my hand way up, point the fingers down at them, and wiggle the fingers (fast or slow wiggle) and slowly move the wiggling fingers down. I might retract them a bit sometimes, just for suspense

  29. Melissa says

  37. bumble says

My kids start laughing before they are even tickled, I think anticipation is 90% of the attraction! Usually we just say ‘I’m coming to get you’ with our tickle fingers primed. This starts them giggling and running.

  38. calicok3 says

    September 14, 2010 at 10:54 am

Just the mention of getting tickled sends them into a frenzy! If we mention they are going to get ‘whiskie rub’ (with the help of a five o’clock shadow), they will run through the house to have us chase them down and give them their tickles. Lots of fun!

  47. cwilman says

    September 11, 2010 at 8:05 am

My husband doesn’t need to use his 5 o’clock shadow to make our daughter laugh; 1) because he works from home and sometimes doesn’t shave for a few days it’s so soft it wouldn’t tickle anyone and 2) we have magic tickle fingers – I only need to get an inch away from N, wiggle my fingers and she laughs until her sides hurt and she wants me to stop, and I haven’t even touched her, LOL!

  48. Suzette says

    September 10, 2010 at 2:13 pm

Hmmmm…a tickle attack…LOL! my husband holds him upside down while our dog licks his belly button. He laughs so hard that we have to put him down to breath!

My children LOVE being tickled and Dad is the master of that ! He holds them down and they’re screaming with happiness at being tickled. You just have to go up to them and tell them you’re going to tickle them and they’re excited.

My son has the best laugh in the whole world and tickling is a great way to hear it as it sends him into gales of laughter. The best part is that often he asks to be tickled. “Mommy – my arms up”or “my secret spot (behind his knees) is showing” is sure to have mommy right in there with her wiggly fingers and him shreiking for me to stop and then askign for more!

  77. arobertson81 says

    September 8, 2010 at 10:23 am

My daughter and I rejoyce when daddy shaves. Everyother day she says ” Daddy you shaved it off, now I will give you a kiss”. She gets a red rash on her face when she says good bye to him before he leaves for work and when he comes home if its an off day for shaving or if hes not had time to do so.
This would be a great addition for us. This way daddy can get more love from his 2 girls.

  78. Crystal says

    September 8, 2010 at 10:11 am
