Bring Your Own Bottle

April 29, 2009 by Jennifer

otterbottle.jpgI’ve long been a fan of BPA-free water bottles. Over a year ago I wrote about how Health Canada had announced BPA was part of its list of toxic substances, and I promoted stanless steel, BPA-free bottles. Ever since I’ve been carting my water bottle around with me to work, to the park, to the rink and around home.

However, the Sigg bottles I found were very expensive, and not easily accesible across the country. Now along come Otterbottles to make environmentally friendly even more convenient.
Calgary’s own Shannon Andrukow combined her style and creativity with her passion for the environment, and created an alternative to Bisphenol A (BPA) bottles called Otterbottle. Each Otterbottle is 100%, 18/8 grade stainless steel, BPA-free and earth-friendly, sporting a different design motif on each bottle to suit everyone’s tastes.

Best of all, a portion of the proceeds from each purchase goes to David Suzuki Foundation, which focuses on finding ways for our society to live in balance with the natural world that sustains us.

Otterbottles are available for purchase online and at more than 40 stores across the country for $17.99 to $21.99 in unique and cool styles. They’re dishwasher safe and contain no aluminum. They’re a great choice to help protect our water, health and environment. I’ve been carting mine around for months and my Otterbottle looks cool, keeps my water cold and helps the environment.

Leave a comment below for a chance to win your own 750 ml Otterbottle. Simply tell me where you’d carry yours! Remember, you must be an urbanmoms.ca member to be eligible to win any of our contests. Membership is free and it’s so easy to join. Why not do it now?

I hate how most reusable plastic bottles make your water taste like plastic so I’ve been scouting for a stainless one. I take water with me everyday on the bus as we head to our daily activity. Will be nice to have a pretty one in my “signature colour”: purple!

I love how cute the design of the bottle is. I too am a huge fan of BPA-free bottles, so much so that I have spared no expense buying them for my now 2yr old daughter. She has had BornFree products since the news first broke with regards to the harmful hazards of BPA. That was back when the alternative products like BornFree were not so readily available. I continue my BPA free products for my son, including teething products. Hopefully one day BPA can be eliminated from the majority of products we use daily.

I would use this Chic Otterbottle everywhere I go, but you’d mostly see me on a soccer pitch (daily event) throughout the Golden-horse- Shoe (our soccer loop), but I’d also be seen carrying mine to the kids school, we are trying to be a litterless school as much as possible, & since I am an uber volunteer I will be setting an example for the students, win-win!!!
