Are you still searching for that perfect Mother’s Day gift for the mom in your life? Or perhaps you’re looking for something to add to your Mother’s Day wish list? Either way, the Kobo Vox is the perfect gift for any mother this year.
I’ve been test driving the newest offering from Kobo for just under a week now and I am a huge fan.
First of all, it was so pretty when I pulled it out of the box! Bright pink trim (also available in other colours), quilted back, 7 inch multimedia screen.
Second, it’s so easy to start using it. I plugged it into the charger unit, and it immediately started to work. I already had a Kobo account from a much earlier version, and when I entered my account information, all of my library downloaded in minutes. The charge takes approximately 20 minutes and holds for about five hours.
And it’s fun! So fun! Make no mistake, this is not a full-fledged tablet (at $179.99 you couldn’t ask for that), but it’s so much more than just an e-reader! It’s WiFi enabled and has Facebook, Gmail and a web browser installed. You can also download any of the 15,000 Android apps (most of them are free).
So who could use a Kobo Vox? Hmmm….let’s see…
Soccer Mom
Sitting on the sidelines of soccer game after game can be tedious, even if your little soccer star can bend it like Beckham. With the Kobo Vox you can catch up on your reading or entertain younger siblings. I made it through a baseball double header undisturbed while my daughter played Angry Birds and Cut the Rope.
Commuter Mom
On any given day you can find me complaining about missing the bus or subway delays. This week I’ve reveled in extended commuting time because it’s just more time with my Kobo Vox. I’ve finished two novels, and downloaded magazines and newspapers as back up!
Sociable Mom
Do you have a mom who loves interacting with her friends on Facebook? The Kobo Vox comes with a fun social reading experience that lets you update your friends on just what books you’re reading (or not…maybe you don’t want everyone to know that you’ve finished the first two books of the Shades of Grey trilogy in 24 hours!). You can also use the installed software to highlight book sections, look up a word, or leave a bookmark.
Tutor Mom
Trying to get your kids to read more? Kobo comes pre-installed with a fun interactive full-colour Franklin book that the kids can choose to have read to them, or read along by moving their finger on the touch screen. If you’ve checked out the Kobo site, you know there are all sorts of childrens’ books available, and there are many educational apps for Android available too.
Social Media Mom
Update your Facebook status, check your email, sent a Tweet, watch a video on YouTube, listen to the radio…do it all on your Kobo Vox. My own mother has just entered the age of cell phones and texting, but if she got her hands on this Kobo, she’d be a social media addict in no time at all (hmmm…maybe I’ll just buy her a nice bouquet for Mother’s Day!).
Basically, the Kobo Vox would make a wonderful Mother’s Day gift for any mother, and they’re specially priced right now for Mother’s Day. Regularly $199.99, they’re available for a limited time only at $179.99.
Our friends at Kobo have been kind enough to offer one Kobo Vox to a lucky UrbanMoms member. Just leave me a comment below telling me the last great book you read, and I’ll randomly draw a lucky winner on Sunday May 13.
