Before the snow even hits the ground LG Fashion Week brings Spring/Summer 2012 collections to the forefront celebrating Canadian Designers. Sarah Stevenson’s art on fashion takes a light and fluid approach to silks in the most inspiring ways.
Inspiration for her Spring collection is uses art strokes from abstract to classic contemporary. Drawn from nature her designs reflect mountain ridges, climbing ivy, soft magnolias and delicate floral artistry.
“Last Spring while searching for inspiration for my next collection I sat in my backyard and breathed in the scent of spring flowers. The lilacs were drooping with heavy blooms, each tiny bud a masterpiece. A magnolia tree was bursting with glorious pink and white flowers. They both looked so ethereal and delicate. I thought to myself how short-lived these gorgeous plants are and I felt a strong desire to preserve their beauty…It made me realize that you don’t have to search far and wide for inspiration, it can be found in your own backyard.” says Stevenson.
Stevenson is a Toronto based clothing and textile designer. Her artwork is beautifully showcased in her original designs and on all of her own fabrics. All of her fabrics and clothing are made locally to minimize the carbon footprint as well as investing in the Canadian economy. “I hope that my clothing line can be appreciated as wearable art as well as uniquely designed fashion pieces that are ethically and environmentally made”.
So, here it is, on a blustery cold November day and the hint of Spring season at Sarah Stevenson’s show just gives us that bit to carry us through the upcoming winter months until nature blossoms again.
Sigh. Simply beautiful…and I can’t wait for Spring.
