Before I had Will, every Christmas Eve I would hit the movie theatre. I’d think about it in advance and save the movie I really wanted to see the most – and go and gorge myself on popcorn and forget that I probably should have been with my family. For a few years running my friend Mitchell and I would hit the theatres on Boxing Day for a movie bonanza…one year we did three in a day. It’s the one time of year where the pickings are NOT slim. This year – no exception. So many movies and so little time. Here are the top five that I will not miss over the next little while. Which ones are you pumped to see this season?
I read the book this summer and it still haunts me. I think about it often. The casting of Tilda Swinton in this could not be better. It will disturb you – especially if you’re a parent. But it’s hands down the one I’m dying to see.
Please! It’s my George!! But actually – more importantly? It’s an Alexander Payne movie. Remember Sideways? One of my all time favourites and this is his movie. I can’t wait.
He’s a sex addict. I’m hoping this movie will give me insight on how Halle Berry could have been cheated on. Well – really – why do I want to see it? Because I think Carey Mulligan can do no wrong (please see An Education if you haven’t) and I need to know the hype around this Michael Fassbender dude.

Saw the Muppets already – it’s the one I was excited about. Would love to see Kevin at some point, maybe with my book club, as we read it together, but maybe not in a theatre. imagine it will stick with me as much as the book did, but would be interesting to see what they did with it anyhow.

I definitely need to see We Need to Talk About Kevin as I thought the book was disturbingly brilliant and you are right about the severe Tilda, and almost remember picturing her as I read the book. Shame looks intriguing but I heard from a couple of people that, while solid, Descendents was a bit boring. Payne can go either way with me, so I will check it out.
Admittedly, I also like Ethan Hunt, the character, and the MI movies – so big screen bang award will go to the doucher, Mr. Tom Cruise.

Well, “Kevin” isn’t exactly joyous holiday fare, is it? Yikes! Looks amazing though. I love Tilda Swinton. I’m dying to see the Muppets. I think I’ll like it more than my kids!

We are so behind in our movie watching. 2 little kids have made sure that the only times we go to the theater must include a G or PG rated movie. Luckily they are making great ones these days. We just saw Puss in Boots. Totally awesome, funny and action packed. Will probably take them to see the Muppets as well. The fact that it was written by Jason Segal just makes me smile. Maybe Hugo too.
Adult movies we need to see:
Harold & Kumar
50/50
The Descendants
Tower Heist
Harry Potter
Moneyball
Attack the Block
A Dangerous Method
Here’s hoping Grandma doesnt mind babysitting every night this holiday!

I don’t know if I can see Kevin. I think it would haunt me. I watched Blood Diamond and couldn’t stop thinking about it for months. However, I can’t wait to see The Descendants! Your George looks fabulous 🙂
