Canada is all a buzz since Will and Kate arrived in Canada. They spent Canada Day in Ottawa. I hope they found a great pub near Parliament Hill and sat there all day drinking with their buddies and then stumbled out to watch fireworks – that’s how I spent a great Canada Day in Ottawa one year. Alas, being the future King and Queen they were subjected lucky enough to get sideline views of the Canada Day concert. (Okay Sam Roberts, Corb Lund and Dan Magan would have been great). How much do you love that she’s wearing the dress she did in their engagement pictures. Recycling fashion already. Love her.
The day must have been bittersweet for William though. It would have been his mother’s 50th birthday. I shook Lady Di’s hand on Parliament Hill back in the 80’s and I’ll admit I got chills watching Kate in Ottawa. Even though I think Kate is so much more prepared for her role, I still think they have such similarities. They carry each other the same way; both look like they have a great sense of humour; and both love William.
But it wasn’t just the British Royals! Citizens of Monaco had a big celebration (isn’t every day a celebration in freaking Monaco???) as Albert finally settled down with his South African swimmer, Charlene Wittstock. There were rumours that she was trying to take off before the wedding and was headed off at the airport. (Maybe she heard the post-wedding entertainment and didn’t want to subject anyone else to it – OUCH!). But, she did make it. And holy crap, she looked incredible. Between us…the rest of the wedding made me think of a cross between the Wizard of Oz and My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding.
I stared to think though. Another Prince getting married without his beautiful mother in attendance. Another Princess, who died too young in a car crash. Isn’t that a little bizarre??
My god – wasn’t Princess Grace beautiful??? Oh and Kate Moss got married too apparently. But well, she goes in that ‘gives me a rash’ category so that’s all I got.

I grew up absolutely adoring Grace. I even went to the same school she did! So far Kate has been wonderful and I hope she’s be as big a role model for my daughter’s generation as Diana was for mine.

Ahhh Will and Kate – I love that there is still continuing buzz about them. They have completely refreshed the Royal Family and I hope that my girl admires them the way I admired Di when I was wee.

I love love love Kate’s maple leaf hat! And, another coincidence: Kate’s dress by Sarah Burton was modelled largely on Princess Grace’s wedding dress from oh so many years ago…
