LOST is back…which means that my brain, once again, is lying in a puddle of goo on the floor. After watching three straight hours (twice) this week, including the recap episode and the 2 hour season premiere, LAX, I have more questions than ever, and worry that there’s just no way to tie up the last 5 seasons in 16 episodes. It can’t be done!
(lies! all lies!)
We not only get two hours of LOST this week, we get two different Lost worlds entirely. The first gives up a glimpse of what Oceanic flight 815 would have been like without the crash. We get a lovely little scare as Rose (a Rose that Jack doesn’t know) talks Jack through some turbulence. We get Jack saving Charlie’s life and while Charlie gets taken off the plane by security he says, “I was supposed to die!” Chilling, that. There goes Jack always dicking around with fate. We get a Shannon-less Boone chatting up a still-paralyzed John Locke who claims to have just been on a walkabout in Australia. We get Kate, still handcuffed. We get Sawyer chatting up a “luckiest guy in the world!” Hurley. And OHMYGOD, we get a really bizarre exchange between one Desmond Hume (Haven’t we met before?) and Jack. WHAT? What was Desmond doing on the plane? and why did he disappear so quickly? Where did he go? We get an even more bizarre exchange with Locke and Jack discussing Oceanic’s oopsie moment of losing Christian’s body. We see Jin and Sun, miserable and pulled over by security. Maybe we are shown this to bring EVILLocke’s words into play…”Locke was the only one who never wanted to go back because he was the only one who realized how pitiful the life he left behind him really was.”
Also? Why is Jack’s neck bleeding?
Also? Where are Michael and Walt?
And why do those underwater sharks have Dharma logos on them?
So, the Jughead plan WORKED….
Or did it?
Because just as we are getting used to this idea, we see Kate up in a tree. In the present (thanks, Ginny!). So, really, the bomb just moved them into the present and nothing’s really changed. Juliette dies and Sawyer becomes ANGRYSawyer and Juliette dies in his arms after mumbling something about going dutch for coffee (significant?) and before she can tell him something important…two words “IT WORKED” which, what? what worked, J? The Jughead experiment? Because now it sure doesn’t look that way, does it? Maybe something else worked…maybe Juliette gone done and got herself knocked up or something? or Maybe SIR MILES was lying full stop and she didn’t even say that at all. oh, Miles, you are a crafty devil.
So, Sayid is only mostly dead because some random dudes at a temple can fix him. The now dead (remember that? When EVILocke threw him into the fire?) Jacob tells Hurley to take him to see Sir john Lennon and Sir “English tastes like crap” who can fix Sayid.
and after they think they failed Sayid wakes up after taking a bath in some unclean water all “what happened?” Sayid = Jacob? YES? Did Jacob find a loophole of his own? and who are these people and why is the flight attendant from 815 with them?
And the real Locke is in the sand all dead and stuff. But the real question is…how long has EVILocke been NOT the real John Locke? He claims to know what Locke was thinking when Ben hanged him. SO…EVILOCKE is the smoke monster. duh, duh duh duh. NOT all that satisfying, actually. BUT, he does say something interesting to Richard about not seeing him in the chains any longer. What’s that about, Locke? HRM? Was Richard tied to Jacob and now that he’s dead he’s not anymore? Or are they literal chains, like, say, on the Black Rock? Also…the dirt circles. THE DIRT CIRCLES! Remember those? and where is this “home’ that EVILocke wants to go to?
GAH.
You’ll have to excuse while I pick the pieces of my brain off the floor….
What do YOU think?
April says
Three words!! WTF!!! As a person who has never gained interest in this show. I now understand why.
Ali says
you are totally right!
PRESENT day.
fixed!
AND I definitely want your thoughts!
I thought that about the Desmond and Charlie thing. That the DESTINY was that Charlie was going to die to save Desmond…so maybe when Jack saves Charlie…he changes the destiny, yes?
Ginny says
Here’s some of my thought, not that you asked! The glimpse of what life would have been like had the plane not crashed isn’t accurate. I think this because there are missing people from the plane that were on the original flight, shannon and people on this flight who were never on the original, desmond – who I think may have disappeared because charlie didn’t die like he was ‘supposed to’. Charlie died on the island to save desmond so maybe the events on in the plane life needs to resemble island life somehow but don’t ask me how, it’s more a crazy theory! Then hurley tells sawyer nothing bad ever happens to him, he the luckiest guy on earth. HUH? He was the unluckiest guy in the world since he used the curse #’s to win the lottery. so is the plane life really a ‘true’ representation of what it would have been like if the plane continued on it’s merry little way?
I don’t actually think that after the bomb went off the island life woke up in 1977. I thought it moved them ahead into the ‘present’ time (whatever that may be). Didn’t Kate say that the crater in the ground wasn’t from the bomb but from when Desmond blew up hatch? And didn’t that happen after the plane crashed? Also, I think given the scene at the beach with fake lock killing Jacob and Jacob telling Hurley he died about an hour ago also means both groups are not in the same time period and I know the beach gang is present time because they never travelled through time but maybe I’m wrong. I need to watch it again.
Anyway, just some thoughts that nobody asked for! 🙂
