so…apparently, i got to the bottom of James Wilkie Broderick’s interesting pajama-like wardrobe.
She told Parade in May that she has so many nephews that James just gets the clothes they grow out of. "That’s the God’s honest truth. Plus, my mother saved all my brothers’ clothes. I am not kidding. I don’t think I’ve ever bought him any clothes. Maybe a new winter’s coat…."
hrm. How very un-Carrie like of her. i guess the one thing that’s still fashionista in her is that she actually does buy James his own brand spanking new shoes. "I do buy him shoes, because everybody’s feet are different," says Parker.
She says, "I think that if I had been raised a child of privilege, I wouldn’t be the working person I am today. I think it’s incumbent on my husband and me to really stress and to show James Wilkie by example what it means to owe your community something and that he is not entitled to the benefits of our hard work."
Interesting. i wonder what kind of conversation she’d have with Katie Holmes, who dresses her daughter Suri in only designer clothing.

I think what she says about earning his own way and not just piggy-backing off his parents is commendable but his hand-me-down look is a bit extreme. Suri, on the other hand, will live a life of privilege in every way I’m sure. That is going to be a challenge when she has to figure out who she is in her own right.

While I do appreciate and applaud the handing down of clothes, I think that perhaps that could maybe find a couple of pair of jeans for him. It’s one thing to go out in sweats and pj pants sometimes, but ALL the time? Come on, SJP! Seriously, you can get him a couple pair for about $20 – it’s called Old Navy. Or Target. Look into it. I don’t know that having his own clothes will spoil him tremendously, but what do I know! 🙂
