When my son was small I was always perplexed by his little friends who spent all of their time playing with toys, imagining themselves in other worlds, lost in their imagination. My son never played like this. Then, I had my daughter. She was constantly imagining herself as someone or something else. She could sit for hours lost in play, surrounded by toys and trinkets she had collected. She would play that she was a teacher or sometimes a hockey player, a superhero or a Bad Guy.
Even still I often sit and watch her in amazement, talking to herself as various characters come in and out of her chosen scenario. When she has friends over they do the same. They get so absorbed in their roles that they are often impossible to distract or to pull away. It can get ugly if it is time for a pal to leave and they are in the middle of a game.
Sometimes, as part of their play, they will incorporate dolls. The dolls sub into the game as babies, students, or little siblings. It doesn’t matter if the doll is big or small, clothed or naked, old or new, they are magically transformed into anyone through imagination.
I have memories of playing like this as a child. My sisters and I escaping from Bad Guys, dolls in hand, sliding down imaginary mountains and running through thick forests just barely rescuing our baby brothers and sisters from impending danger and sure death at the hands of these evil doers. And, looking back, it was so real. That is what I see in my daughter and it is incredible to watch.
Seeing my girl with her friends I know she is not the only one with a
vivid imagination. Do you have a girl like mine who loses herself in
play? Would you like to add a friend to her collection? If so, share a
story of your child’s play in the comments below and you will be

I was very pleased when I recieved this dress. For the price I got it for I wasnt expecting much…but I was pleasantly surprised! The only reason I didnt give it 5 stars is because of th3e belt that attached and also wasn’t aware of when I purchased it. Otherwise its a great dress!

Great, less thoughtful gift to get a friend. NOT a BF or GF, cuz they will stop talking to you for a while.

My neice would love one of these. Her mom has always encouraged imaginary play with her daughters and these would fit right in! They are always doing crafts and playing with playdoh and dolls. They are encouraged to read and act out stories. I would love to get this for one of them! Thank you.

On a sad note, I remember my fondest memories as a kid was playing with my dolls, OOOooo the Magic Voyager!!!…, By 13 I was alone raising myself, I had to give away all my toys, and grow up, Now at 31, I notice the importance of playing, and being a kid and not growing up to fast. I luv to watch my six year old play, and she sings, I tell her dance for me. She is an only child, so I watch her lose herself in her imagination playing with her dolls, I hear her yell “mom.” and I respond to her “yes”, and she answers, “not you mom”, I answer “oops… sorry.” ;D

my kids (3) all play using their imaginations allot of the time, wonderful to see. They would love a moxie doll too 🙂

I was always a Barbie fan and these dolls were not around in my days. My grandma always told me that if I eventually had boys, to make sure they played with baby dolls, so they could learn that babies were to be taken care of, not just thrown around. So when my oldest was born he got a baby doll and he loved it, he carried it around and “fed” it and “burped” it. My youngest did not take too well to a baby doll, but he is into action figures. Sometimes his action figures have purses though. I think if he had one of these to play with his action figures he could learn that “girl power” is a force of its own, and very different from “boy power”.

My daughter Amelia makes me laugh most at bedtime. She lays in bed and imagines with whatever stuffy she has taken to bed with her. When she talks it’s a high squeaky voice, when the animal talks, it’s a deep scary voice. She can do this amazingly well. We hear her yelling, ‘no, don’t eat me mr wolf’ or ‘yes i’m a princess, that’s my horse”. I loved all my dolls and imagining when i was little. Amelia has a lot of my old dolls, but these would be some nice additions to her ‘family’.

Wow….these dolls are so cute. My daughter is always making something up, a story or a song. She loves to play with her dolls and whenever her cousin comes to play they like to play house.
Lisa Casey says
I have two girls, they would both love these dolls. They love to play out things while dressing up, this past Saturday was a 3 hour marathon of restaurant, house, fashion show and any number of things in between. It is so enjoyable to see that my girls can have fun without the need for electronics. These dolls would be an asset to the brain building that imaginary play facilitates in my girls.

I loved imaginary play when I was a little girl. Starting when I was very young I had a whole world of stuffed animals that used to play in my bed and then I would come home from school I would talk to them about what they did all day. As I got older, Barbies were the thing. Barbies were the best.
neicey says
The good ol days of using cardboard boxes to make beds. Now I watch my daughter play with the nice fancy barbie dreamhouse , the one I imagined as I played with cardboard boxes. She plays with barbies and dolls as if they are real, trying not to hurt any of their feelings. Dressing each one, combing their hair, and at times taking the scissors ever so gently cutting away every last piece, and actually looking proud as she does it. All is well until her little brother comes into the picture. Then it seems all heck breaks loose. Words come fast and furious about not touching her babies, and to get his own. When he starts crying, her motherly insticts click in and she starts handing her “babies” over to him, and a new scenario begins. Watching the interaction between these two is so humerous I have to laugh at them. Even with all the technology and the glamorous barbie house, they are content to play with their “babies” and role play just as I did as a little girl. I hope her imagination never fades and the love she feels for her barbies and dolls carries on with her for the rest of her life.

As a child I used to play with dolls all the time. I played school with them and I their the teacher, hospital and I was the doctor or just being a good mummy to them. Today I still have a fascination with dolls and am an avid collector.

My daughter is six and we went to a wedding in the late summer, this was the first on she had seen and for the next few days the Barbies were always at a wedding. As her Grandma bought her a Ken a few month before and he was rejected and tossed aside because it was a boy. Now he is part of the fairytale wedding. She now thinks Moxie is cool.

When I was little I watched an awful lot of super-hero cartoons. Batman & Robin was my fav. Robin became my imaginary friend…cause I was batman! Didn’t matter that I was a girl. My mom says she used to get some odd looks from the other moms when I ran through the park yelling “come-on robin” behind me to no one!

When I was a kid I would play with Barbies for hours on end. Now I have two girls ages 9 & 2 1/2 and they are certainly their mother’s daughters! With there being such an age gap, I thought for sure my youngest wouldn’t be interested for quite some time. Boy was I wrong! She really looks up to her big sis and loves playing dolls with her! I am sure they would love to add these Moxie girlz to their collection!!
frugalfeline1 says
I love watching kids play with the polly pockets we have. At first I thought “no boy will play with these” when boys came over. I was soon proven wrong. Kids have vivid imaginations and aren’t constrained by our preconceptions of “boy” toys and “girl” toys.

My goddaughter is always playing pretend. She loves to pretend that she runs a movie theatre, is a secretary, waitress, chef etc. She has such a wild imagination. She loves playing with dolls and would love to have one of these wonderful Moxie dolls. She is always dressing up her dolls, celebrating their birthdays etc.

My daughter is always imagining something! Last week when she misbehaved she told us she had an evil twin sister and went on in detail to describe her and the twin made appearances. She loves dolls and barbies. She is such a girly girl. I would love to win this for her!

My niece will soon be 7 going on 16! It is amazing how much kids know nowadays….she knows all the names of the cast on Hannah Montana and High School Musical, she will even recognize the stars from my magazines! She is always playing dress up or career (she loves to play office and swears she will be a secretary when she grows up!). She has a birthday coming up in a month and i would love to win this for her!
Porcelainchick says
These dolls are so much nicer than their predecessor – the Bratz
Which in my own personal opinion seemed for a much more mature group of girls than who were actually aimed at.
I like the innocence on the faces of these dolls, their clothes are ‘edgy’ enough to attract the older doll playing girls but also leave alot to the imagination.
My six year old would love to have one of these dolls, I am sure she would find relating to them easier than the other fashion dolls. And I especially like that there is a doll with range in ethnicity finally!
Well done!
( Maybe I will have to buy one for Mummy to play with too!!!)
AgnesM says
My granddaughter is going to love these dolls. She is always organising her dolls and stuffies into all kinds of fantastic story lines. Every one has their own way of talking and acting as she moves them around in their roles. Sometimes we adults even catch glimpses of ourselves when she is playing by herself or with her little girlfriends. Imagination is a wonderful thing!

Hi this is about my Granddaughter and her role playing with her dolls, makeup, shopping(old gift cards) you name it she seems to be able to find a way to make anything interesting. Besides she is the only one that can get her big strong Uncle to play dolls and makeup with her.
Can u believe just the other day her Uncle and I asked what she wanted for Christmas and she told well a MOxie Girlz doll Gramma, besides Santa knows this so dont worry okay. We are talking about a 4 year old going on 10 I swear.
So would it not be perfect to win this doll for my Moxie Girl as a surprise from her Santa.

I love that grandchildren, and my own children before them still have the imaginations that my sisters, friends and I had growing up. In today’s society of television, video games and every toy imaginable it’s refreshing to see that so many children still have not lost the biggest joy of all. Imagination.
jentam says
I love to watch my niece play. She gets so involved in it — it reminds me of when my sister and I used to play. We had the best time making up so many games and stories.
Denise says
My neice loves these dolls. Her birthday is in November and that is what she has asked for.
Gayle says
Actaully both my son and daughter can spend hours playnig like this together. Sad to say but he loves dolls and dress up too. I keep out “halloween” costumes all year in the basement so they are free to be whoever they want to be when ever they choose. It’s amazing to see my daughter, so young, have “motherly” instincts like putting the baby in the bassinet on the piilow and covering her up with a kiss for “sleepsleeps”. Or making “their friends” food and having to leave to go to “their (imaginary) birthday party”. where these kids come up with things is beyond me but it sure helps bring back your youth again:)
Debi says
Both of my 8 year old twin daughters love dolls. However, one of my girls loves her Barbie world. She spreads all her dolls and accessories around her and plays in her imaginary world for hours. She calls it her Barbie Day and no one is allowed in- it is her own private world and time alone. It’s so cute to watch her play.
styson says
My youngest is always talking and cuddling her “babies” she even has the little boys next door asking their parents to by them a doll.

I grew up in a single parent household with one sib – my sister, who is 2 yrs younger than I am. Imaginary play was a VERY big part of our day to day world – and man were we good at it! We created the biggest Barbie universe in our basement – although we never had the Barbie home, or boat (although I did have that cool pink corvette), we would use ANYTHING we could find in the house to build their world bigger and better… in turn creating an imaginary bigger and better world for us… I think back fondly and remember those times with my sister, and am so grateful for them.
I am blessed to have three kids myself… 2 boys and 1 girl (in the middle). I am amazed at my daughters sensitivity, creativity, and wild imagination, at how she creates what she can with the toys she has on hand… And although I wasn’t (and still am not) she is an absolute “girly-girl”! I love that about her! But being a girly-girl with two brothers can be stifling, and frustrating for her, even on the best days.
She cherishes the few dolls she has, and has made them her babies (although sometimes difficult to imagine when they have “boobs”). The Moxie Girlz campaign caught my eye – and unlike other dolls that look like little prostitutes (that I refuse to buy), I love the wholesome look and attitude these dolls represent. I love that their clothes and build actually look like real kids – no “boobs”, ultra-minis or stripper boots. I think that its nice to just let her be herself, and to play with a doll that looks like she does. I know my little “girly-girl” would love to become “mommy” or a “sister” to one of these beautiful dolls!
Karri says
My 6 year old is famous/notorious for getting “lost” in imaginary play… Hardly a day goes by that I don’t sneak open her bedroom door to find her engrossed in playtime! Up until 3 months ago, she was an only child, and I think that one of the benefits of that was the need to learn to play on her own.
She has imaginary friends (whose voices she gives life to) who join her for tea parties… She dresses up her large, stuffed unicorn with outfits chosen from her own closet, so that they can play “princesses go to school” together… She reads to her My Little Ponies, and even lets them “choose” which book to set aside for their next get-together…
I always get a kick out of seeing what she comes up with next – and am continually grateful that her imagination is flourishing!

My girls (Tessa-6yrs & Ella-5yrs) would love one of these dolls. They do not have any yet and have been asking for them. I love sneaking into their room and watch them play with their dolls. I have to check on them at night to make sure that they are not up too late lost in their imaginary world with their characters. They can play for hours.
sbenko says
Well my son is more of the builder type my daughter how an endless imagination. It’s so interesting to listen in and hear what she is saying to her dolls and many other little toys and it feels really good when it’s something nice she’s repeating that she’s heard her parents say!
corkrose says
My niece of 3 loves to pretend with dolls and funny animals already! My own daughter used to love to play with Barbies & I in my youth loved to play with SINDY & PATCH her sister!
Liz W says
I don’t have any children but I do have a niece, Mae, whom I enjoy playing dolls with. She’s just so adoreable. She must have dolls of all ethnic backgrounds and skin tones. She loves to tell me background stories for each doll [she’s only 3].
It’s just the cutest thing. ^-^
I grew up with maybe 10 barbie dolls… I didn’t get many due to my excessive need to give them haircuts and mangle their clothes into a new style, haha.
I find having dolls helps my niece talk more openly about what she’s thinking or problems she’s having or even telling the truth [recently we found out that her cousin had be telling her to do bad things to the animals in the house so Mae was getting in trouble and she told me she hates her cousin because of it=/]

I had left my comments (Trish MacNeil) when I was having trouble signing in … but there is one thing left – I know both Maria and I would love to win a Moxie doll. Thanks
Michelle Ellis says
My daughter would love one of these! She has outgrown the baby dolls but loves playing with her “older” dolls. She loves to set them up on her bed in her “classroom” and pretends she’s the teacher. She’s quite serious when she’s instructing her class and handing out lessons!
Trish MacNeil says
Growing up I loved my dolls – my favorite I had named Maria…so when I finally had a little girl of course I named her after my favorite dolly. I am pleased to say Maria shares my love of imaginative play and being the only girl in a house with 4 older brothers – she uses her imagination alot…mainly creating a younger female sibling with whom to share her playtime, dreams and abitions. She and her friends spend hours playing with, dressing, styling and acting with her dolls and I think this creative play enables her with her creative writing at school (she’s in Grade 5)…she writes stories about what her and her dolls do…I LOVE the fact that she can do this and soon we’re going to start designing and sewing our own clothes for the dolls – I can’t wait – what a wonderful creative thing imaginative play can be.

Growing up i LOVED dolls, everything from Strawberry Shortcake to Barbie to Cabbage Patch Kids. I remember having a Cabbage Patch Kid’s party and 2 of my friend’s brought their Cabbage Patch’s as well and we exchanged little gifts for our dolls. I still have a picture of us sitting at a child’s table with our dolls and their gifts heehee!

My two daughters love to have tea parties in front of the ceiling to floor mirror. They lay out a blanket, bring out the tea pot, set the plates and cups and invite every doll and stuffed animal they own. The mirror doubles the numbers of “guests” and they can entertain themselves for hours. Once the tea party is over, the scenario becomes daycare/school and they sit and read books to the “kids”.
Laura says
My daughter, at 20 months, is just starting to imagine. She carries around dolls and talks about babies. It is great fun to watch her entering that world. It has also been wonderful fun to watch my 4 year old niece who has been imagining for some time now. One Christmas she was given dress-up clothes. When it was commented that she made a very beautiful princess, she exclaimed that she was not a princess, she was a Queen! We all stood corrected. (Although she has since decided that it is better to be a princess because there are so many different types of princesses that she can be….)
My niece would love to have one of the Moxie girls join in her kingdom!
Betty C says
My oldest son has the wildest imagination I have ever seen. Once he gets “into character”, that’s it! I remember when he was 3 or 4 and in preschool he was really into the “Land Before Time”movies. He decided that his new name was to be Dill (it was an alligator or crocodile from one of the movies) and you HAD to call him that or he’d get quite upset. I still have arts & crafts with the names “Zack” and”Dill” both written on them, LOL! Finally the teacher said enough was enough and animals weren’t allowed at preschool anymore. She was great, LOL!

My 5 year old daughter-is the only girl in our family. She has 2 older brother-one is 20 and one is 16..So she is the princess of the home. She has very long hair and loves to imagine herself as a mermaid. She pretends her dolls are her sisters.
She is always primping and dressing her dolls..One of these dolls looks just like her,and she will be thrilled to win one of these pretty girls.

not having any experience with sisters i’m really enjoying watching my two daughters interact with each other and come up with all sorts of crazy scenarios! a sheet dragged over the back of the bed turns into the most beautiful castle!
Roxanne says
I love listening to my daughter sing and play. It is so cute. She has a great imagination and it is great to watch them entwined in play.
Andrea says
Since my daughter was really small she has always played well on her own. Just listening to her when she can’t see me always makes me smile. Sometimes she breaks out into song and sings to her toys. These are the times that make parenting really worthwhile and the times I am really going to miss when as she gets older. A new member for her tea parties would be very welcome to her.
Anna Curtis says
I was an only child so I used imaginary play alot, it was my only companionship. I loved trying to make barbie clothes from my mom’s fabric scraps. Sometimes I would imagine what it would be like if one of my dolls came to life and was my little sister.
Chere-Lee Hollett says
I am a mother of four daughters. Over the years I’ve seen this imagination play from all four of them! My two oldest were avid fans of Bratz and now my two youngest are totally into the Moxie Girls (they are also on the Christmas wish list this year)! I find my two youngest daughters Ayden (6 years) and Reygan (2 1/2 years) playing daily. Sometimes they play house where they’re older sisters living together with children (various dolls as their children) other times they’re sisters visiting with their children. They do talk in various voices (sometimes as scary people trying to harm their children or light high-pitched voices of fairies or fairy god-mothers). We encourage this type of play in our home for it gets their imaginations flowing and it’s very entertaining to watch their “little worlds” play out!
Yvonne says
My sisters and I played with Barbie’s, dolls, dollhouses for years, and my daughter isn’t really into “girly” stuff, but I’d love to transform her! Either way, she has a great imagination and loves to play!
cc says
My niece would love to own one of these! She is always grabbing everyday items from around her house to make pretend houses for her dolls!
Jen says
OMG! My sisters and I had a huge tub filled with Barbies and Barbie clothes. We would make the bookshelves into her house, tissue boxes for beds, and do her hair and dress her up. I loved it!
Shanna Gordon says
I loved imaginary play when I was a little girl. Starting when I was very young I had a whole world of stuffed animals that used to play in my bed while I was at school, and then I would come home and talk to them about what they did all day. As I got older, Barbies were my new thing. Barbies were the best as me and my firends would create all types of scenarios, from weddings to shopping at the mall. Now my daughter is 27 months and she is starting to use her stuffed animals and dolls for imaginary play and it is so sweet. She pushes around her dolly in her stroller, feeds her, changes her diaper and treats her like her baby, it is adorable!
Kath says
Not eligible, but I just have to comment. I soooo loved imaginary play, and I love to see my girls engaging in it, too. In these days of so many “screens” (TV, DVD, DS, etc.) it is too easy for them to give themselves over to someone else’s imagination. Oh, and btw, my little one (six years old) is DYING for a Moxie Girl. Definitely on the Christmas wish list!
