I remember reading a friend’s comment that being a grown up meant being smart enough to wear sensible winter boots. I suffered through many winters in my teenage years trying to get away with sneakers in January, plastic bags under rain boots and desert boots in the snow. Winter is very miserable when your feet are cold and wet (perhaps that’s why all teens look so sullen and dour??!)
For the past few years my feet have spent their winters stylishly clad, warm and dry in Cougar boots. This Canadian company launched its iconic Pillow boot back in 1976 and it has never looked back. Over 8 million Canadians wore that functional and fashionable boot.
Over the years, Cougar has introduced new and contemporary styles, but this past Fall it relaunched the classic pillow boot to great acclaim. They’ve kep the classic tan colour, puffed leather and red fleece tongue and lining, but updated the boot to make it slight sleeker and less bulky. Fashionistas everywhere are putting their spin on the quintessentially Canadian boot.
This first pair is very reminiscent of its ancestors.
While this wedge version is a little more fashion forward.
Cougar also introduced the Quilty, a sister to the classic pillow, and it’s become my favourite winter boot ever. Worn high, they keep me cozy and warm with tights and leggings. Rolled down, they give my skinny jeans an urban cool factor. Either way they’re cozy, completely waterproof and earn lots of compliments on toboggan hills, in hockey arenas and in downtown malls.
The Cougar Quilty is available in brown and black, retails for approximately $250 and can be found (along with its Pillow Boot sisters) in shoe stores across the country.
