The first wood fire of the season…freshly mowed grass…banana bread fresh from the oven…tequila…Scents can be such powerful triggers of nostalgia and memories, and all of these smells can take me right back to a certain time in my life simply by closing my eyes and breathing deeply.
If, like me, you grew up in the 80s, chances are that one of the most powerful scents from your teen years is The Body Shop’s White Musk. Introduced in 1981, it became so popular that at one point in that decade, 2.5 White Musk fragrances were being sold every minute.
I worked part-time at The Body Shop during the holiday season in the late 1980s, and even after working some incredibly long hours, dealing with some incredible demanding customers, and filling my nose and my lungs with that fragrance, I never tired of it, and wore it faithfully.
To celebrate the 30th anniversary of that bestseller, this month The Body Shop launches White Musk Libertine, set to surpass the success of the original fragrance with a new generation.
I’ve been wearing the eau de parfum all week, and I absolutely love this fragrance. It’s a mix of the sweetness of Turkish Delight and Chantilly Cream, with the more mysterious Musk scent at its base. It is reminiscent of the original White Musk without being the same.
As a bonus, staying true to The Body Shop’s social commitment, the fragrance contains Community Fair Trade organic alcohol made from organic sugar cane from Ecuador.
White Musk Libertine has a full line of products at The Body Shop, including body wash, body lotion, body spray and eau de toilette. Prices range from $15-$26, which makes this a very affordable trip down memory lane.
