I spend far too much time every winter in my knee length black down-filled coat, and it seems to be the uniform of choice for many mothers who schlep between hockey arenas, skating lessons and school yards. This coat is warm, insulated, but not at all fashionable.
This season I vowed to spice up my coat wardrobe, and Old Navy is just the place to do it. They’ve got coats in all sorts of colours that embody the key trends of the season, yet they’re accessibly priced starting from $49.50!
What are this season’s trends and how do they translate to outerwear?
Ruffles
You’ve seen the ruffles on blouses, blazers and sweaters, and now they’re showing up in coats. Check out this beauty in gorgeous cherry red.
Military
The military trend is also hot for the season, and the flak jackets in khaki and olive are a great interpretation of this look. Pretty it up with an unexpected floral scarf
Camel
Camel, camel, everywhere…the temperatures don’t feel Saharan, but the theme does! Camel is so classic, and I love this look with a little faux-fur trim (another super hot trend).
I went with one of the hottest trends this year, the menswear-inspired design and picked up this double breasted wool pea coat in navy.
I love that it’s trendy, but classic (and at $69.50, the price point leaves me with enough left in my budget to dress it up with a funky scarf and hat).
