After doing a re-set on our hall closet last week, I noticed I could use a few new shots of colour for fall. This is a good trick to use when your wardrobe is mostly monochromatic, as mine is. Hits of texture, pattern, and/or colour are necessary. This outfit isn’t new per se, but a few new accessories can add a bit of freshness to the same-old.
While in Toronto, I picked up a new slouchy toque that instantly reminded me of chain mail armour. Read: texture. This also bodes well with all my Robin Hood fantasies. *snort* Actually, I’ve had all kinds of compliments on it since I started wearing it last weekend – the colour is good on me, it seems – and it’s lightweight, which means I can wear it around the house without breaking into a sweat. I don’t have much hair, you know.
I also scooped up a new handbag from the place that rhymes with Sinners. She’s not leather, but she’s a good-looking alternative. Not all faux-leathers are made equally, but when you do the high/low thing with your outfits, and the other stuff you have on looks good, the “low” stuff tends to look better – it’s the whole ensemble that counts.
In the case of this bag, the finish is smooth. And, the stitching isn’t too contrast-y, which can sometimes be a dead giveaway about the “cheapness” of an item. (The black version of this bag looks cheap as hell.) All around, this one looks good. Given its classic shape and it’s deep, charming teal colour (a hue I’m digging pretty hard this fall), this jaunty little extra looks far better than it is, especially next to the boots, which are leather. It’s small enough to be all dainty and whatnot, but it’s big enough to hold my iPad if I need it. Win-win-win-win.
I’ll say here, I’m going to enjoy this bag since it’s about the colour – and I prefer my bags on the classic side – but the others I saw that cost easily three times as much? I didn’t like three times as much. You know what I mean? I can’t spend crazy-money on a bag every time I want one. That’s nuts. This is reasonable.
I love getting dressed this time of year more than any other. I can layer and play with all kinds of textures before the super-sad winter comes and I’m forced to wear my big brown parka over everything. (Suck.) But, it ain’t winter yet…

You sweet thing, Katya – thank you! Ive had this jacket for about four years (I think) and the boots were a true steal from Aldo this spring. I love a bargain – I save the rest of my money for hookers & blow. (Heh.)
