You guys, it is HAPPENING. I’ve been invited to a Roaring ’20s-themed party!
Here’s what I have:
- A fascinator.
- An abiding love of gin.
- Red lipstick and a smile.
Here is what I do not have:
- Anything to wear.
I know! I know! I’m very excited, but also not so excited about the lack of A Very Cool Outfit.
So far, I’ve found this Ann Taylor skirt, which could work…

…but it’s also $80, and that seems a bit steep for a costume piece (though this IS totally wearable, I don’t know if it’s Regular Me. Just Roaring ’20s Me).
So! This may be a long shot, but have you seen anything cheap(ish) that might work, or any easy-yet-perfectly-Roaring-’20s-ish-outfit ideas? I’d love to hear your thoughts. I’ll be here, wearing my fascinator, and swilling my bathtub gin. (FINE, it’s Hendrick’s.)
There were lots of cute 20s ish dresses a couple of years ago after that movie came out (what was that? something based on a book, I think with Julianne Moore, maybe? Maybe Kirsten Dunst?). By now, there may be some floating in thrift stores, or if nothing else, check vintage stores.

I ran an event for a client this past year and had a woman come in a make-shift zoot suit style…wide leg pants, sexy white shirt, suspenders and heels..she looked amazing..
I wore a pencil skirt, cute evening blouse and of course the requisite heels (pencil skirts are back in the store now)…made the look very Pearl Harbour meets speakeasy…
Maybe you could try our favourite FOREVER place, and think “lace shift dress” or maybe even something maxi… you can do more beads and things on the headband and purse… long strands of necklaces… maybe.
That skirt is very cute, but I agree that $80 feels like a lot. (When it comes down to the potential cost per wear, that is.) Have a blast!!
What about a costume rental place? Or, if you have time, check out vintage stores.
Okay I seriously love that skirt! Unfortunately though I haven’t seen anything that would help you out price wise…..sorry. Sometimes I miss my younger days and the parties, and the drinking and the…whoops now I am wishing I was going to this party! Have a great time!:) If I hear/see of anything I will let you know.
