We’ve had a bit of a weird spring here in New York, and by “weird,” I mean “nonexistent.” Basically, we went from endless weeks of temperatures stubbornly hovering in the 40-50 degree range, to…sub-Saharan African heat. Along with humidity, which is every bit as marvelous as you would imagine.
Naturally, I needed to switch up my moisturizer, and fast. I have that amazing and oft-coveted (ha!) combination skin, which is just a DELIGHT to work with. I’m very picky about moisturizers, since striking a balance between Flakytown and Oil Slick is not easy to come by. Add a sticky New York summer into that mix, and…well.
I’m pleased to report, however, that I’ve found a fantastic summer moisturizer: M.A.C. Lightful Deep Ultramoisture Creme ($38). It’s a fresh, light-smelling, almost gel-like face cream that absorbs INSTANTLY, and adds hydration without oil. While it’s a bit pricey, a little goes pretty far. My skin looks glowy and moisturized, but not shiny. My only — ONLY! — complaint is that it has no SPF, but that’s easily remedied by using another product that contains it (e.g., powder with SPF). Other than that, though? Perfection.

Definitely try Go Clear moisturizer with SPF. It somehow keeps my combination skin – which has rosacea – happy for the summer.

I have previously used a really nice light daytime moisturizer from MAC that did have an SPF, but only of 15, and I prefer 30, being ghostly as I am. I have the combination skin, too, so if I’m unpleased this summer, I’ll totally be considering abandoning my beloved Origins and trying this!

That sounds good, Metalia! I love MAC products, but it’s mostly been makeup and gloss (oh, and their line filler is killer) but I should try this one, maybe. Sometimes a lady needs to change up her routine, especially when the heat comes – Oil Slick – oy, I know!!
