We all know “one of those mothers”. The mother who shows up at every class party with over-the-top nut-free, organic, beet-infused decorated cupcakes for all (including the teacher), while we send in a half-empty box of stale potato chips.
The bar was much lower when we were kids. I can remember the pride I felt when someone told me in the schoolyard that she looked forward to class parties because my mom made the best rice krispie treats. Cereal, marshmallow, butter and vanilla extract…the 70s were a much less complicated time.
In these days leading up to Halloween, you’ll receive the inevitable class note requesting your contribution to the Halloween party. Don’t cop out and send in cheesies and black licorice, declaring the colours seasonal. This year be your child’s hero and let them feel the schoolyard pride of bringing in the hit of the buffet menu.
Kraft makes it easy with the terrible tasty treats on their awesome website. Kraft’s Halloween Centre has all sorts of ideas to take the stress out of party planning.
What grade school child would not want to be the one offering these Monster Toes cookies (made with lime jello!).
Your little goblin will be the hit of the party bringing in these eyeball cupcakes!
For the more mature gourmand, how about these adorable Halloween truffles; white chocolate, coconut and whipping cream…what’s not to love?
As for me, I’ll be kicking it old school and contributing some good old-fashioned rice krispie treats, with a 21st century update…thanks to whatever genius thought to add candy corn to the original recipe.

So, who is your pick to win the superbowl this year? I was hoping the Lions would continue playing so well, but now, I don’t know.

Yes! My child would be the hero with these cute treats. Thanks as I have to make some for their upcoming Halloween party and this will be perfect.

I love baking for Halloween. There are so many fun and crazy recipes that you can make with your kids. Ghosts brownies are one of my favourite recipes. I make brownies, cool, then top with a regular sized marshmallow. I heat vanilla icing in the microwave for a few seconds and then spoon over the marshmallow, creating the appearance of a ghost. The kids decorate with a sprinkles for the eyes and voila a delicious and spooky treat!
