We had 15 people up north this past weekend, four couples and seven kids all under 10. This was the second weekend in a row of hosting so it has taken its toll both on our culinary creativity as well as our cheque book. Needless to say, we are taking a break this weekend, laying low with me at Blissdom (which I am a bit nervous about being in the overwhelming minority) and Steph kicking around with the boys.
I thought about doing a post on Amanda Todd, but there is a lot of noise out there about bullying, a lot of anger and a tremendous amount of sadness. I will just say that having been on both sides of the bullying fence, we are very careful with our words with our boys, hoping the phrases do not supersede the underlying actions needed to curb these terribly caustic and mean playgrounds.
Be nice to people.
Care about people’s feelings.
Stand up for someone who can’t stand up for themselves.
Own your decisions and stand up for yourself.
Basic tenets yes, but for someone who lives and breathes the creation of key messages, hammering home these points to our boys comes pretty natural. And so far, I think they get it.
Anyway, that’s my two cents. Here are some shots from a great Autumnal weekend in Muskoka.
My brilliant Tasman.
Tasman, Hud and his friend Niki on top of the boathouse.
View from the point, looking down at the dock.
Some guy I met on the boathouse.
