It would be irresponsible of me, as a blogger, as a lover of words, as a husband, to not offer some coherent stringing of dedicated sentences to my best friend on her birthday. A birthday of significance I might add – a phrase I created to alleviate the particular sting this birthday number seems to have on some people – which she woke up to, this April 12, 2012.
Fortunately the sting of this number does not seem too swollen on my wife. You see, she is a wonderful woman, a beautiful woman, a strong woman, who seems to deep down know that age is simply a number. And with her long list of accomplishments; successful art director, loving and spectacular mother, tolerant and giving wife, warm and honest friend, great collector of shoes, I think she would even admit that this certain age, while not as flippant and fun as 20, or stimulating and earthy as 30 has its own merits and badges of pride.
Thing is, when I look at her, stare at her, and see her at this age of significance and realize that I have been beside her, behind her, running to catch up to her, rarely in front of her and sometimes in her arms, for almost half of her life, I remain bewildered that she chose to be with me and in awe of the woman she has become.
Mostly I am glad she is the woman I wake up in the morning beside, the one who gave me the two greatest gifts I ever will receive and the one who still can make laugh out loud by doing dancercise in the living room.
On this day of significance, for this woman of significance, I say happy birthday to my sweet sweet Stephanie.

Beautifully written, Jason. She is, obviously, as lucky to have you as you are to have her. And tell her from me, one who has just completed that momentous year. Welcome to the club. Enjoy the ride!
