This morning was it.’The Monday Morning Muddle’. Does it happen in your nest? The end-of-the-weekend hangover, where no one wants to get out of bed? Precious minutes pass by and then things quickly become a jostle of hurried-up chaos and ‘Mom, where’s my…_____”, There is nothing worse than starting off the week with the stress of dis-organization. And it’s not fun to have people going out the door looking like little Miss Pickle Puss and or Mr. Sauerkraut either!
To help you avoid the Monday morning muddle, here are 3 little tips.
1. Use some time on Sunday to prep lunches for the week. If you can, set up a ‘lunch station’ in the fridge. Have everything needed for lunches on hand and at the ready. I use 2 fridge bins to keep our lunch items together, but any type of plastic container will do the job.I wash and cut up fresh fruit & vegetables for lunches for a few days at a time, and I have small dips and single serve containers of greek yogurt ready to go.
2. Have family members check their laundry situation to make sure they have enough clean socks, undies, and jeans for the week. If clean laundry is needed for Monday morning, and if the family member is old enough, have them carry it to the laundry area and load the washer themselves. I tell my kids all the time that ‘we are a family and everybody helps!’. It’s also a good time to remind those who need things ironed to get out the board and get ‘er done.
3. Make sure school bags, sports gear, etc. are ready for the morning. If you can, set up a ‘school launching and landing pad’ where children have designated space for their backpacks, shoes, coats and school papers. Below is our family’s ‘launching & landing’ pad. I use the bulletin boards for schedules for school, sports teams, etc, so they are easily accessible to everyone. This helps to keep us all on the same page.
It doesn’t take a lot of time to complete these tasks on Sunday, but boy, is the pay-off great come Monday morning. And by taking on these jobs on Sunday, you can get other family members involved and not feel as though all of these things are left up to you!
So tell me, do you sometimes suffer from the Monday morning muddle at your house? And if so, what things tend to be the major muddle maker?
