Spring is finally here, and my garden is starting to grow! I know, funny to say that spring has finally arrived in May, but here in Calgary, our growing season is ridiculously short – winter stays late, and comes early, too. It’s hard to get anything growing before early June. In my hard, though, I’ve got one plant that is growing like it’s on steroids: my rhubarb. While everything else is barely sprouting buds, my rhubarb has gone from a few green bumps to absolutely massive in the course of about a week. Check it out:
That’s my five year old daughter standing beside it, for perspective. Look at that! It’s huge! And ready for the very first harvest. I’m going to pull some this weekend and bake myself a cake – my friend over at Life Where We Are posted one that looks deeeeeelicious! I can’t wait to bake it, I’m sure the family will love it.
What’s sprouting in your yard?

Nice!! We don’t really have the space for food-growing… your rhubarb looks amazing though! Happy cake-baking!!

I’m so excited about all the green and growing things!!! And I didn’t know that rhubarb grew so fast! Does it get bigger every year?
Hope you enjoy the Rhubarb Cake!!!

I LOVE rhubarb! We’re hoping to make a bit of wine with our excess this year. My dad used to make rhubarb wine and it was delicious!
We have no yard, but we do have a community garden plot, and this year I am attempting to grow melon … wish me luck!

Not much sprouting in my yard, but if you have any extra rhubarb I’m not very far away… 😉
