Right now I am wrapped in my housecoat, rinsing out my four year-old’s barf bowl every 20 minutes, and drowning in laundry.
But….
in three weeks’ time I will be sunning my doughy thighs on the beach in Maui.
I have really learned a lot these past few years about embracing the moment, being more present, and not wishing the days away. However, today I am dreaming of what will be, since what is…is kind of soaked in vomit and I am ready to run for the hills.
My plans for Hawaii include: sleeping in, tanning on the shore, reading 14 novels whilst having Steve shovel spoonfuls of shaved ice into my gaping maw, and did I mention sleeping in?
I am beyond excited, and am wondering if anyone has any good book recommendations for me? Have you read anything amazing lately that would be a good vacation book for me? Do tell!

We just got back from Maui. They’re three hours behind us (and two behind you?), so don’t count on sleeping in. We thought that would be the best part too, but it was actually really divine to wake up refreshed at 5:30am to the sounds of tropical birds and the ocean waves. No recorded sleep mix; the ACTUAL ocean! It’s amazing. But then it meant we were too tired to read at night, LOL, so I have no book recommendations. While you’re still jet lagged, though, make the drive up the mountain to see the sunrise. The drive is as good, if not better, than the actual sun. At one point, you’ll look out your car window and see that you are parallel to the stars.
And … now I want to go back.

Catherine McKenzie’s books are fabulous beach reads. Arranged, Spin, Forgotten. She’s also Canadian
I’ve Got Your Number by Sophie Kinsella is hilarious and quirky
The Spellman Files by Lisa Lutz is delightfully weird and funny
If you like mysteries I would suggest Confined Space by Deryn Collier or Crow’s Landing by Brad Smith
Memoir’s: Let’s Pretend this Never Happened by Jenny Lawson
