A natural athlete I am not. I like reading and drinking coffee and sitting on my soft rear. However, in the past year and a half I have made my physical health more of a priority and have been blazing new trails in my fitness level. I’ve been faithfully attending a boot-camp class and trying to be more mindful about what I’m eating.
The other night Steve and I went for a bike ride, my first in years. In classic husband-form he suggested we bike to the top of Giant’s Head mountain, the highest point in town. I agreed, thinking I’d be able to handle it.
We left from our house, biked the to very base of the mountain and began the grind. Before we even made it to the gate, it felt like my legs were flaming and my lungs were about to burst. I wanted to quit. Any maybe go get an ice cream cone instead. But then I decided to change my mind and just do it, just keep pedaling.
It was hard, it hurt, and it took all I had, but we made it to the top and it felt so good.
Here’s to husbands who push you out of the nest, to trying things you never dreamed you would, to reaching the summit and to the nachos you earn at the end of the ride.
