Next year will be our 10th anniversary.
We got married when we were 19 (scandalous!) and in the decade that’s followed, we have jam-packed a lifetime’s worth of events: going to University, taking over the family apple orchard, moving multiple times, a handful of huge renovation projects, three babies, career changes, and more. It has been a whirlwind and there are times that we both can’t believe how much our lives have evolved and changed, almost while we weren’t looking.
Ten year is a lot. I basically want to make all of 2012 our anniversary year. We have to take a good look at our budget, but I would love to take some kind of trip (somewhere, anywhere) as a celebratory get-away. Vegas, Tahiti, Portugal…I’m easy to please (haaaa)!
Have you (or do you plan to) celebrated landmark anniversaries with gusto and pulled out the big guns to make them really memorable? Any good ideas for us?

I think you should celebrate my going to the beautiful country of Switzerland. 🙂 There is this sweet town called Neuchatel, where a lovely couple would delight in hosting you. You could take day trips to the mountains, or check out the wine regions, sample the local cheeses, or use it as a jumping off point for adventures in France, Italy or Spain. You might even be able to write some of the expenses off as business, if you make a point of checking out the orchards and different farming practices. Win. Win. Win (that last win is for me 🙂
Come on, doit. DO IT!!!

Congratulations, Amanda! Beautiful picture of the two of you. My husband and I celebrated 15 years this year. It only gets better 🙂 Aren’t we lucky?!
We went to the Carolinas for our 10th and LOVED it. Stayed in a beach house and explored the history. This year we went to Florida for our 15th. Another little beach house. Wherever you go, enjoy your celebrations!

go to disneyworld! no, really. i know it’s really hard cuz you CAN’T tell the kids (trust me….there are NO pictures of us there when the girls were 4 and 18mos.)
it was so awesome to walk by the lineups of strollers, eat when and where we want and stay out until all hours. it is a completely selfish trip.
warning tho….even i started weeping once when i saw a couple of really sweet girls enjoying themselves and i felt like a sh*t but then i went to the mexican pavillion and had a margarita and felt better-ish.

A beautiful spot is the Burrowing Owl Resort and Winery. Beautiful rooms, amazing views and hospitality and of course phenomenal wine and food. I took my hubby there last year and we were in heaven!

We were married in ’99. On our honeymoon in St. Lucia we met some amazing couples who share our anniversary. Two of the couples we have stayed in touch with (both in the US). One of the couples we are fairly close to.
For our tenth we drove to Niagara Falls and they drove up from Pittsburgh to meet us there. We spent 3 days and 2 nights there with them doing all the touristy things – Maid of the Mist, Wax Museum, getting our hands waxed figured, casino. It was a ton of fun. We are going to try and plan a trip away with them for our 15th anniversary.
I’ve heard you can’t really go wrong with New Orleans.
I’ve also heard great things about west coast Via rail trips.
Sean turns 40 next year and he is planning a big trip to Liverpool next year with some friends to drink beer and watch some football matches.
For my 40th in a few years I’d like to plan a trip to NYC with some girlfriends. I’ve never been and would love to see Letterman, Kelly and-whoever-the-new-co-host-is, walk central park, Statue of Liberty, Empire State…

Can’t say we did anything special for our tenth, it was a busy year, I seem to recall, but then, we’re not big vacationers or anything. We probably went our for dinner! Maybe we’ll really splash out for our 25th, instead… (I know, we are SO exciting.)

I think ten years is amazing and you should celebrate it! What amazing things you’ve accomplished in a decade! I can offer no suggestions…but my god I’d love to go to Tahiti. Have you been to Greece? I say it’s only for singles or romantic couples!

Haaaa, we’re still talking about celebrating our 10 year anniversary. We’re at…15 now. We did manage to celebrate our July anniversary 2 weeks ago though, so we’re on the right track. I am clearly not the right person to give any kind of meaningful advice on this topic. Well, not entirely true. We mostly find that we’re so ridiculously lucky and happy most of the time to have the life we do, that the big events don’t seem to have as much draw. Not that our weekend away wasn’t amazing though!

It’s our 10 year next year too. I have my fingers crossed for diamonds. 😉
