I was at a lunch today and we were talking about the bias we all bring into situations There are hardwired biases that we don’t even know exist in ourselves and they pop in unannounced and without warning. They may be subtle or glaring but they are part of us.
Without thinking I said ” I am most judgemental when I am least happy with myself.” I hear it and know it is there a little BUT I am more aware of how beautifully forgiving and open I can be when I am happy with myself. If the opposite is right then the opposite is true.
I don’t want to get old and gossipy or cruel or narrow. When you don’t live with another adult you have to especially watch this (although one might argue that couples can bring out the worst in each other as much as many can bring out the best as well).
All of this points to just another reason why we should take the best care of all sides of ourselves so that we can see the world through the lens of a solid self. Because how we see ourselves is how we see the world. And how we see the world is how the world will be to us.

Beautiful flowers and great post. I agree – the older I get the more I’m able to see my own bias and work to eliminate it.

Great writing … but … but … wait a sec … tell us about the flowers!!! Who sent those gorgeous things to you!! Do tell 😉 (p.s. I am assuming it was golfer-dude who taught you about the tight grip ;))

Great topic! As I get older if I catch myself in my own thoughts, thinking the worst of a person or judging them I take a step back and try to look at it from another angle. Narrow minded people are just about the most difficult people for me to interact with because they’re unable to do that themselves. The world is grey (and purple and green etc) and the furthest thing from black and white. None of us are perfect and there are so many underlying issues behind each and every decision we make, to think otherwise is just plain ignorant!
