words for wednesday- things we are not supposed to say

June 20, 2012 by Nancy

here it is.jpg

” I love my body so much I would get up on this table and take my clothes off”

“I love my children. They are the best”
“I love my teeagers- they are incredible people”
“We have a great sex life. I want him badly every night”
“I am a really good mother”
“I love my life”

Why do I know that we are not supposed to say these things? Because  there is a look of shock, disbelief, suspicion and distaste when these things are said.
You are not supposed to feel these things and if you do you are supposed to keep it to yourself.
Why is that?
Why is misery in style?

(yes humility is a lovely trait but what about being a little impolite once in a while. So goood for the circulation)

You can’t talk about the things you love without it being gloating.
You can’t talk about the things you don’t like without being a miserable oaf.
You just can’t win. So speak what you feel.
I’d rather shock people than bore them!

I knew I would be more popular if I entered with the negative! I have a million of those stories too but sometimes I think it is difficult for people to accept that this “is the best of times” – after all – who knows what tomorrow might bring. I fight like the devil to try to love what I gots. It is not always easy, right?
You should see when I say “actually, I am divorced” with a smile on my face. Everyone backs away like a have a disease that might be catching. I feel like saying-Do I have to cry for you to make it seem right?

i agree, sara! i said that and horrified those around me as well. i don’t know anyone who enjoys being pooped on, yelled at and generally messed up for years….especially when you don’t get paid for it!
i do say “my kids are the best” quite a lot because they are! and i make sure they hear about it, too!

And the opposite way too – I remember saying to a woman “NO this EFFING sucks’ when she asked if having a newborn wasn’t the best time of my life. She looked horrified.

I will never forget this married woman I know – saying sheepishly ” I love sex with my husband and want him badly” She felt self concious! Seriously! How scary is that!

I hope you say all these things, out loud, every single day, Village…
    We all should. 😉
