I love the fresh start to the New Year. There is much talk of resolutions and new beginnings. I really love this stuff. And I do know many people hate it.
We have spent every New Year’s since my split at my best friend’s cottage with her family. It was there interestingly, 5 years ago, that she used the term “broken family” which started me on my way to write about our unbrokeness.
Every year I bring a cue card for each person and on New Year’s day we write ourselves a letter to open the following New Year’s day. It can talk about how to be, what you will do, what you will change- whatever you want.
Then I put them in an envelope and hide them in my underwear drawer. The next year I bring them up for everyone.
Try it if you don’t believe me- what do you have to lose?

oh I love ‘stretch’
that is a noble goal worth repeating

Nancy, I appreciate the encouragement. My new year’s note was centered around another resolution I started last year where I select “one little word” which guides my thinking, goals, actions for the year. I got the idea from Ali Edwards blog and this year my word is “stretch.” Bring it on-twenty-twelve! I’m ready!

We used to do that with my girlfriends…we’d put them in a box for next year. I loved it. Except every year it was about getting out and meeting men…this is hte year I VOW to do it!

What a great idea! 2011 has been full of changes, challenges and holding onto some old traditions and introducing new ones into my life. I’m definitely going to give this one a try. Happy 2012!
