Just spent a very fun annual weekend at friend’s cottage with good food, art tour, yoga, side order of laughing my butt off and a few shared bottles of red.
I love this friend- have written about her before- she is so full of energy and love. Whenever I say this is what I am working on she uses the word “we” and makes me not feel alone like she will do this and that to help my latest thing take off. If I say I want to take up karate – she says “I will do it with you!” If I say “Anyone in for a Vietnamese cooking class? How about ballet? Anyone want to swim across the bay?” She’s my girl. Love her for that.
But
I hate her for the fact that she has finished- yes finished- her Christmas shopping and she brought it to her cottage because she needs to hide everything from her family.
Did you hear me?
She is finished her shopping.
Done
Completed in flip flops (not winter boots and coats shlepping through the puddles and salt with the angry crowds)
All done.
I don’t think we can be friends anymore.

I have to admit, I shop through the year, which not only spreads out the hit to the visa bill, but also means I grab things beause they make me think of someone, not because I have to find something, anything! I’m maybe half done at this point, though, not as far as her!

oh yes I remember your enthusuaism from last year, Chris! And I think with the littles it is a must.
for me- love Christmas but it must remain in December.
Walmart carols in October, Christmas shelving at Home Depot just after Labour Day makes me depressed. I don’t want to be sold Christmas, I want to feeeeeeeeeeel it.

Started? yes. Done? not even close.
Heck I even put my tree up the weekend of our Santa Clause parade (mid November)
There’s something about the holiday mall atmosphere that just can’t be beat. I don’t mind the parking lot, the slush, the crowds…the Christmas Carols seeping out of the speakers thru the mall make me happy.

Oh, no. I’m sure she’s wonderful. But, c’mon now! We walked through a hardware store today and were thoroughly disgusted by the Christmas trees set up already. I love Christmas. The kids and the excitement and the candy and the sharing – all very good things. But we’re still a month away from Halloween!
