I just read Gretchen Rubin’s preference card blog post.
She had overheard that surgeons have preference cards so that when they work they are able to have things just the way they like it.
When we have things just the way we like it – we perform better.
I wrote up my preference card-
Nancy prefers to work in a place that smells like good food and hot coffee.
Nancy prefers to have natural light and brightness.
Nancy prefers an excellent playlist at times and silence at others.
Nancy prefers a little bit of chaos and a lot of the unexpected.
Nancy prefers fresh flowers over there in the corner.
Nancy prefers people to stop in and interrupt her frequently. If they open her fridge and make themselves at home – she really prefers it.
Nancy prefers every day to be different anchored by some beautiful routines.
Nancy prefers when a friend calls and says ” I need your help” “I want your advice” “I need to tell you a story”
Nancy prefers clients who are under 4 feet, have sticky fingers and toothless smiles.
Nancy prefers to work in the kitchen with someone around her.
Nancy prefers rule breaking to rule following.
Nancy prefers physical contact over polite space.
Nancy prefers four seasons over constant blue skies and warm days.

Okay then:
Tracey prefers sleeping over exercise.
Tracey prefers touching peoples hands when she likes them.
Tracey prefers tulips over roses, in a single colour.
Tracey prefers coffee and eggy-things for breakfast, but needs her eggs VERY WELL DONE, or else forget it – then, just bacon.
Tracey prefers sunshine and warm weather.
Tracey prefers soup over stew.
Tracey prefers her nails to be polished because she likes shiny baubles and things.
Tracey prefers the colour black, especially in turtlenecks. And lingerie.
Tracey prefers leisurely eat-all-day meals with family and friends.
Tracey prefers a tidy house that’s as clutter-free as possible to live in (not to visit.)
Tracey prefers red wines that are fat and chewy, and whites that are crisp and dry.
Tracey prefers to hear the city around her, rather than wear ear-buds.

Robyn prefers to be working with and around other people (preferably ones who are pregnant and/or who have just given birth)
Robyn prefers bright, sunny spaces
Robyn prefers everything in its place before going on to the next task
Robyn prefers to clean out her inbox at least twice a day
Robyn prefers that everyone clean up after him or herself knowing that she will do a once over after
Robyn prefers staying home and watching TV to any form of exercise, except if it’s a walk on a warm evening or anytime in the spring or summer
Robyn prefers fresh flowers, no baby’s breath thank you very much
Robyn prefers intimate meaningful conversations than the fake how are you crap
Robyn prefers conversations in person rather than over the phone
Robyn prefers snuggling and hugs with her three kids over whining and complaining
Robyn prefers a glass or glasses of wine, preferably shared with friends and family
oh man….I love thsi and I want to just live in your space – but like Ali – I’m coming back with mine tomorrow am too (when I dont’ have a toddler having off me!)

Sam prefers a day that starts with a hug
Sam prefers a strong cup of coffee, papaya with lime and a croissant with blackcurrant jam
Sam prefers to work from her dining room table – looking out at the beautiful snow, rather than driving through the messy stuff.
Sam prefers to spin at 6am then have coffee with the group
Sam prefers long meals with family and friends
Sam prefers to cuddle with her girls in her bed and watch American Idol
Sam prefers to laugh and chat, and drink tea or wine with her ladies
Sam prefers to buy herself flowers, and loves when others randomly bring them for her too.
