how to answer the santa questions and still maintain cred
How does santa get to every house in one short night?
Magic
How come santa does not give money to poor people?
He cannot fix everything – but he can bring cheer.
Do you believe in santa?
yes. I choose a world where we believe in things we can only see with our hearts.
Do you really believe in santa?
With all my heart. Do you?
How come I asked for 38 toys and only got 3?
Santa often gives us what we need not what we want. Sometimes we need less than we think we do.
My friend said that Santa is mom and dad. Is that true?
What do you think of that?
If Santa is so fat how does he get down the chimney?
Magic and a well appointed pair of Spanx
Do you believe in Santa?
Of course. All the best things in life we cannot see or touch.
How come there is a price tag from Walmart on my Hockey Stick from Santa?
The elves can be overwhelmed and Santa often uses retail re enforcements.
How come I asked for you and dad to be together and he did not give me what I want?
Santa’s magic is limited to only what is meant to be.
I asked for a puppy and I was a good boy. Why no puppy?
It can be dangerous for live animals on the sled. Also, if live animal does not also appear on mom’s list it may be cancelled until further notice.
What do you tell your little ones? How do you keep the faith?

What a great post, Nancy! I love this line:
“I choose a world where we believe in things we can only see with our hearts”
I have a 10 year-old who doesn’t believe anymore, and a 7 year-old who sort-of does. That’s a real bugbear of mine, because it’s a little girl in her class (with an older bro) who keeps telling her that Santa/the toothfairy/the Easter Bunny are “just the mom and dad”. ARGH!
My line to her (and to her older sister, back in the day) was, “think about it: would I really buy all that extra stuff, go to the trouble of hiding it, then stay up late (I love sleep!) and NOT TAKE CREDIT?”
Jen and I took our 7 year-old girls to sit on Santa’s knee yesterday, and it seems to have restored all their doubts (at least for now). In the meantime, I think I might have to call the little girl’s mother and ask her to coach her little girl on not giving it away to the other kids.
I want my kids to have that magic for as long as they can!

Cuyler told Santa last week that he wanted a puppy. “A REAL puppy!”
Santa looked at me with a raised eyebrow and I shook my head “no”. Santa told Cuy that it is much too dangerous to carry live animals on the sleigh.
They asked how our Elf on the shelf makes it there and back every night as he reports to Santa – magic. I mean, look at that little guy – he’s full of magic!
I haven’t had too many questions this year.
The Norad Santa tracker is a FANTASTIC way to spend Dec 24 – seeing exactly where Santa is at all times. We turn it on in the morning of the 24th and refresh it throughout the day. If you haven’t used it in years past – please use it this year! Even I find it fascinating! Especially around 8pm when Santa is in Toronto/Mississauga area. That’s one way to get the kids to bed quick!
