There is a current movement started as both an experiment of appreciation and disgust called Six Items or Less. We lucky folk have these moments all the time -we appreciate the abundance that we have – more shoes than feet, more sweaters than cool days and dozens upon dozens of lovely flirty dresses dying to get invited to a summer wedding (I can be ready in 10 minutes-15 if you want me to look good ). An embarrassment of riches that begs to be culled down, edited, given away and definitely not supplemented with new additions.
The idea is that you choose six items out of your wardrobe and wear only them for a whole month -any combination. Mathematically this does not add up to much with societal pressures of tops and bottoms at all times. People all over the world are jumping at the challenge with all sorts of surprises and new levels of appreciation for their possessions. One woman claimed that her husband never noticed that she was wearing the same things in limited variation day after day. Quelle surprise.
My best friend and I laugh all the time that one of our favourite things about summers at the cottage (we both spoil ourselves by taking our work north every summer -an act of self love so deep it has a way of reaping benefits even on the coldest February day) is precisely this six item lifestyle we embrace at the cottage. For two months we wear our uglies, things at the half way point -too lame for city but too loved for charity. We wear our bathing suits and a sordid small group of coverings. We shower less frequently because we swim constantly and with the help of good biodegradables-keep clean.
When we come south on Labour day -we open our closets with a thrill. All these old and new friends, lovers, treasures and memories. Christmas in September.

Christmas in September…I couldn’t agree more! I hope that the sun is as bright and lovely over your piece of heaven as it has been up this way. xh
