Aloha from Florida! I say aloha because we’re on Anna Maria Island, which Will and I agree is exactly like Hawaii. Not that he’s ever been there but from what he’s read? Regardless. I’ve been and it reminds me of it. Little beach houses everywhere. No high rise, chain hotels. No big box stores. It’s adorable.
We’ve had two days of brilliant sunshine and Will is proving once again to be an incredible traveller. The flight down was amazing. He’s playing well by himself and sleeping like a log. So far, he’s pet a shark and a stingray. Oh yes. I kid you not. Randomly on the beach, caught by fishermen. Guess who won’t be swimming in Florida this year? The other thing that he’s been awesome about it having to pee and poop at every inopportune moment. (hear the sarcasm drip…drip…dripping).
So. I’ve given up. Grass pee it is. Today, we went for a long walk on the beach with my step-mom. The waves were massive and I was gripping onto Will for dear life. And wayyyy down the beach, he had to pee. So off to the sea grass it was for him. Then he started to explore through the grass. Just as I stopped to grab this picture of him, he started to scream.
You know the one? That earth-shattering, ‘mom, I’m totally not faking this’ kind of scream. I ran to him, thinking in my head, what the hell do I do for fire ants. That’s all I could think of. Fire ants. But no, his foot was covered in burrs.
I started yanking them out, swearing as they stuck in my hands and listening to that scream! Diana and I were debating if salt water would be good to wash the sand off but instead I just gathered all my spit and well, doused his foot in it.
A long wailing walk home, three blankies, a popsicle and some tweezer suregery later and he was back in almost full form. He wanted some quiet time and I wanted a beer on the beach. We both got what we wanted.
But it took it out of him for sure. I mean, who falls asleep at 7:30 in a restaurant? Ummm Will does.
Manatees tomorrow….I just need to keep him out of the manatee tank!

What a doll asleep there. I can’t believe you got the picture just as the drama was unfolding.
Oh, and I LOVE Anna Maria Island. Enjoy every minute!
