The vacation is over. I can say without hesitation….it was heavenly. I can also say…I’m shocked. I’d be lying if I said that two weeks with the boy was slightly terrifying to me. We had two days of unpleasantness. I was short, ill-tempered and bitchy. The culprit? PMS and forgetting to take my meds for three days in a row….very bad combo.
Highlights??
a. Catching up with my friend Andrew and spending three heavenly days at his cottage up north. Will was on his best behaviour; Andrew was amazing with him and having Andrew’s mom there was a great chance to catch up with her and get away a bit while Will napped and she hung out with him. I did my first real workout since the achilles tear…it felt wicked!
b. The Science Centre. Who knew? Blast for kids! Hint people…don’t go to the restaurant – hit the hotdog cart up! There is a snake exhibit there. Snakes. Note to self….make sure you tell your friend not to joke with your kid that the snake will eat him….offsets all the Oscar worthy performing that you’re doing pretending you love them!
c. Will putting a penny in my new car’s CD player. Highlight? You bet!!! The days of Wiggles, Bert and Ernie and Raffi taking priority over my iPod playlists are over! So awesome because he understands that he broke it so he’s not complaining. We drove to work today singing Staying Alive. God I’m happy.
d. The swimming! My boy is a fish! I’m so excited for him. He leaps off the side and before he comes up for air he’s yelling ‘again, again’. But he still has some diva in him….he likes the warm water and is none too impressed when it’s below 80…deal kid…deal.
e. His birthday party! My boy turned three. He had all his buddies over – 8 three year olds, two 8 month olds, three in utero….AND NO ONE CRIED. Well except for me when my beer fell over. Kidding – the only tears happened when the guest of honour showed up Oscar the Grouch…but as you can see…I had little sympathy. He’ll be showing this to his therapist in a few years….
But the very best part of the entire vacation was the fact that I didn’t want it to end. I went back to work today and I missed him. I missed him so much. He hugged me tonight at daycare and said ‘I miss you mommy.’ And I think he knew what he was saying and he meant it. Only three more days to the weekend!!!! Woohoo!
Oh my gosh, girl – that rocks so hard!! all of it… and Happy Birthday Will!! Wow. Three years old already. Amazeballs… 😉
