It was a BIG night of celebration at our household tonight.
There was singing.
There was dancing.
There was cheering.
There were Smarties.
…..all because….
He dropped the kids off at the pool. He went to see a man about a horse.
Yes – He went poop in the potty.
Then he ate two smarties, agreed they were awesome and vowed to do it again tomorrow.
Could it be the beginning of the end of the diapers? My god I hope so. I’m ready. I think he’s ready.
Time to buy some Sports Illustrated and a pack of matches and leave them in the washroom.
Wait, maybe I shouldn’t be cheering…..

smarties, nickels, whatever. then we figured out after a few road trips that it was actually easier to have them in diapers! but in the end (ha!) it’s worth it all.
1 smartie for pee. 2 for poo. We had her trained within a few days and haven’t looked back! It’s been great. She started staying dry through the night too but I haven’t gotten up the guts to not put on a night time pull up quite yet. Good luck and good bye diapers!!
We did the bribe route too … didn’t seem to catch on. On his first attempt, he got splashed and he didn’t like that very much so no amount of bribery would get him to go back on right away. A little patience, took it slow, eventually he just got it. Diaper free is the way to be.
We used a start chart… that was enough for my son, but Madame wanted marshmallows. I think bribes are okay, as long as the training isn’t taking 10 months – and being done with the diapers is sooooo liberating. YAY for your little man!! (And yay for you, mama!)
Ha! We didn’t have to do anything with Girl 7, who just wanted to learn so she could wear Dora underwear, but knowing he was ready and was fine with the pee, we did finally start offering easter eggs for the #2 drop with The Bun, after much frustration, and it did get us over the bump.
I gave Emily one smartie each time she peed or pooped and I swear it took her a month and she was fully potty trained…still wear’s a pull up at almost 4 and most nights she is dry but our first still has accidents and we never did the “candy” thing….i should bribe him with a chocolate bar at night!!!
