Hey Will’s Father! This is the third year that I’ve written a post like this for you. Fifteen years from now, I hope you’ll read them and check out the pictures of Will letting blue balloons float into the air….the one official time in the year where we thank you for US. I unofficially thank you every day (well okay there are some days when I question what the hell was I thinking??).
The boy has come a long way this year!
The talking. God the talking. We’ve gone from being on the list for speech and language to me shopping for a toddler sized muzzle. Just tonight he told me to ‘Behave Mommy’ and burst into peals of laughter…followed by me. How can you not?
He’s developed an incredible imagination. He puts on shows in front of the mirror to his audience of admirers. He fishes off my bed with a belt and catches elephants. He’s currently carrying two babies in his belly (thanks Beth!).
He has the appetite of a linebacker and the body of a ballet dancer. He’ll heartily throw back a bunch of asparagus; requests cold macaroni for breakfast and has never met an olive he doesn’t like. He will however reject any piece of cheese that isn’t the part of another dish.
He’s a shameless flirt with the ladies and loves roughing it up with his boys. He has a smile that can stop traffic and a laugh that can bring you out of the doldrums.
He’s also a gigantic pain in the ass at times; stubborn; dramatic and exhausting. I’d like to blame you and the 50% of his DNA that you contributed for that but….well….he’s his mother’s son. We can fight like alley cats and he knows exactly how to push my buttons for maximum effect. I’m totally screwed when he’s a teenager.
There’s been a lot of growing pains for both of us this year. His legs are growing looooong and I’m trying to grow some patience to match them. But we’re learning together.
Happy Father’s Day. I hope wherever you are that you do stop for a minute, take a deep breath and smile in the knowledge that you’ve given me and other families in need an incredible gift.
Being Will’s mother is the greatest achievement of my life.
Thank you for letting me experience it.

Ohhh. This one gave me goosebumps Sara. Such a beautiful post.
I can relate to the baby in the tummy. Cuyler’s never had 2 though. Just one baby. And a cat.
What an incredible boy you’ve got! I love how grateful you are – always – for the gift you’ve been given.
Happy Father’s Day – where ever you are!
