Ah young love. Remember your first love? I don’t necessarily mean your first full out serious romance (although I guess for many they are one in the same) but I mean that first, sweet…’oh my god is he going to hold my hand’, type of deal.
For me it was summer of Grade 11 (or maybe 12…it was looong time ago). I mentioned him in my post about fighting your insecurities, and even though he ditched me promptly when his ex returned in the picture, I have nothing but really sweet memories about the whole thing.
And this song, it brings it all back to me….Peter Gabriel’s Red Rain
This guy was a singer – is there where my love of musicians comes from – maybe. Anyway I have this distinct memory of catching him standing in front of my mom’s record player in our sun porch, playing this album and singing this song along with it. I’m not sure he even knows that I was there but I just watched and listened. And it was good. And all the memories that come with it – him, our house, high school – they’re all great ones.
On days like today – if you’re not in Toronto – we’re currently being pissed on – I pull it out and listen….and smile.
What songs remind you of your first love???

Oh my gawd Jen!! I love that song!!
My sister is 7yrs older than me and I always thought of her as a “New Waver”. She listened to such cool music…we had that on vinyl.
Sara – when you come over I will rap every word of it to you! I practiced in line at Tims and still know it all! #loser

My real first love is still my love today! Met my hubby when I was 19 and although I had crushes and boyfriends before him I can’t even remember much about them. I loved him from the moment I saw him (corny, but true).
This song was playing when we first me. I still think of him and get butterflies when I hear it! Especially the line, “just the touch of your hand behind a closed door”. Wow.
Only You by Yaz/Alison Moyet – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SdvZa46xb3M
I did date this loser guy and when we broke up I remember crying to Sinead O’Connor’s Nothing Compares to You. GAWD. How pathetic.

I should clarify that Somebody had been out for a few years before I had listened to it enough times to wear out the cassette and memorize it word for word, breath for breath.
