My friend found this awesome download on itunes. It teaches novices how to run. The program begins with a combination of walking and running in short intervals. Week by week the program decreases the amount of walking, and increases the amount of running. During the nine week program the voice coach gradually builds up your pace, until you’re running for a half-hour.
It’s really a great program! It works with or without music – your music is paused while the coach give you instructions, and then it starts again.
We are only in week 3 of the program, so I can’t tell you if we will be running at the end of the 9 weeks. But I can tell you this, we feel great! And best of all the download was only $1.99.

Hi Maria. My friend downloaded the program onto her iphone. Please post the link to the program for the nano and I will see if it’s similar to the one we are using.
My friend and I are entering week 4 of the program. We are still enjoying the program but feel that it is progressing a little too rapidly for us. We have agreed to repeat week 4 until our cardiovascular system gets stronger and we have more endurance. The program allows you to repeat weeks as many times as you like.

Hi ladies! Thanks for the great tip! I just went onto itunes to download, but it’s telling me that it’s only compatible with the iphone, ipod touch and ipad. Have you used this with a nano by any chance? When I did a search, a free program is coming up (with the same name: couch to 5 km)…but I’m not convinced. I’d rather pay the $1.99 since you give it a glowing review.

Sounds like a great idea. I need to get back into my running schedule. It has been 2 months.

I am one of those people that always said I have to be running from something in order to run, but I am determined to run a 5k coming up with my sister in law so I will have to try this, thanks for the info!

Okay, so I am the friend that downloaded this great app. 4 weeks ago was the first time in my entire 36 years that I put on my running shoes and ran for a continuous minute. At the end of the minute, I was panting and never thought I could run another second but after a minute of walking, I was able to run for another minute and this went on 8 times that day. Fast forward to today, I am now able to run for 5 minutes straight. I never thought I could do it and I have been telling all my friends, if I could do it, anyone can. I can honestly say that I went from couch to 5 minutes. I am looking forward to the weeks ahead when I challenge myself even more, and to when I reach my 5K goal.
