Well, I know you’re all sitting on the edges of your seats. Last week I came clean on my renewed efforts to lose weight. You know, the part where after losing 50 pounds several years ago, I’ve gained most of it back? Yeah, that.
Well, Sunday I had my first weigh-in after being on Weight Watchers online for a week. I guess you’ve surmised by the green arrow that the results were positive. (Well, negative, really, but in a positive way, right?) Yup. I lost weight. Two pounds, to be precise.
It’s not a lot, but it’s more than 5% of the 35 pounds I’d like to lose, and I’m content with that. In fact, with Weight Watchers the whole idea is to lose weight at a healthy rate of 1-2 pounds per week. So two pounds down after week one? Yeah, I’m happy.
And you know what else I’m happy with? The new Weight Watchers program. The PointsPlus program is a lot like the old Points program in that each food is assigned a points value, but the way those points values are calculated is different. I won’t go into the whole nitty-gritty of it with you (mostly because I don’t understand it), but a MAJOR difference is that all fruits are now zero points. Which totally rocks, because they didn’t use to be. And when I was doing WW before, I would often choose foods like baked chips instead of a banana or mango because they had the same points value. Which used to always make me shake my head, like you’re trying to tell me that eating an orange isn’t good for me?
Anyway; so now I feel encouraged to eat a lot of fruit, so I do. I am eating at least five servings of fruit per day, along with another 4-5 of vegetables. And that alone is a good first step towards a healthier lifestyle, regardless of weight loss.
And another thing that’s making me happy? How I feel. I find myself in a better mood, and I will get this random sense of well-being at times during the day. I (obviously) haven’t noticed any changes in how my body looks yet, but I feel better about myself. To be honest, that feeling of wellness is almost reward enough on its own (but let’s be totally truthful – I want to lose weight so I can look good again, too!)
So, one week down, two pounds down. I know from experience that it’s going to be a journey of ups and downs, but I also know that — overall — there will be more downs (weight-wise, that is) and it’s the trend that matters in the end.

Well done! I have lost two pounds too, since I started on Jan.1, and while I feel that’s on the slower side, I’m finding the PointsPlus plan way more sustainable than the old plan. I don’t feel nearly as hungry and deprived as I did before. Keep up the good work, and I’ll do the same!

That’s an awesome result Kath! Two pounds in one week is fantastic. My best friend has been going to Weight Watchers for months. She has reached her goal weight and looks amazing. She has encouraged her friends to join, as she has been so pleased with the diet. My friend would tell you that 2 pounds in 1 week in an amazing result, and that you should feel really proud.

Awesome Kath! And hello….2lbs is great. I did WW with my mom and we’d liken it to 2lbs of butter so to rid yourself of that is awesome! I’ll be rooting for you!

Great work Kath! So pleased for you and the fact that you already feel better is so amazing. I have fallen off the fruit wagon over Christmas so now feel motivated to eat more as well.

Well done Kath! Good for you!
Slow and steady wins the race and it will likely stay off the slower you lose it.
Keep up the good work! Looking forward to following your journey – I know it’s going to be a successful one!!
