Okay, we know spring just started, and with the up and down temperatures it’s hard to get in a summer frame of mind. But it is summer camp registration season, folks, so we’ve got to get in that summer spirit at least a little. And with that I present to you one of the coolest summer camps out there.
Do you have a budding oceanographer or marine biologist in your house? Or a Little Mermaid obsessed, “I wish I could live under the sea” swim fan? If you have a kid who would be happy to spend their days exploring the great blue sea, then the Summer Day Camp at Ripley’s Aquarium in Toronto is where they should be this summer.
Kids get to participate in all kinds of hands-on activities and experiences both in and outside the Aquarium. Each and every activity will help kids learn and discover the mysteries of the deep blue.
They’ll get to go behind the scenes at Ripley’s and experience the Aquarium like never before. Every week, campers get to interact with the experienced Ripley’s aquarists and scuba divers and learn about the work they do every day with the marine life.
Younger campers aged 5-7 get to try all kinds of hands-on activities including creating sea anemone slime, feeding the sea turtles (!) and making their very own take-home sand castles.
Older campers aged 8-13 will be immersed in the world of marine biology—this is great for kids who are interested in the ocean, science and all things aquatic. They’ll have a chance to observe animal behaviours, dissect a squid and even feed some of the animals!
The camps run on a weekly basis and each day explore one of the six Ripley’s galleries, given the kids lots of variety and different experiences each day.
While you’ll need to send the kids with packed lunches most of the time, the camp costs includes 2 nutritional snacks each day as well as a Friday pizza lunch. Kids will go home with a fun camp T-shirt, a souvenir backpack and a take-home photo. The camp also gives kids access to the Aquarium for the week and all onsite activities.
