If you are my Facebook friend, you will know what I’ve been going through.
Yes, it’s lice. I’m too tired to write much but I’ve been intending to post more on Mindset…but, that’s a tease because I’m too tired.
Here’s how it went for the girls and me:
Friday: Diagnosis. Treatment. Combing. Laundry. Vacuuming. Laundry.
Saturday: Combing. Laundry. Vacuuming. Laundry.
Sunday: Combing. Laundry. Vacuuming. Laundry.
Monday: Back to school. Still infested. Combing (as the instructions said) was not enough. Sent home. Pick girls nits and lice out by hand for several hours. John gets home at 8pm. I go to my friend Nadia’s house and she picks my hair for 3 hours, but doesn’t complete . Laundry.
Tuesday: I pick the girls hair off and on all day. Nadia works on my head from 10:30 am until 4:00 pm with no lunch break. I pick the girls hair before bed. Laundry.
Wednesday: I pick the girls hair. Nadia works on my head from 11:00 am until 3:00 pm with a lunch break. There are still nits and some live lice. Laundry.
I have a lot to say about this. But it will have to wait because I need some sleep.
Believe it or not, I shot a short film on my phone. Watch it and cringe.

First off, you need to bring in some bigger guns – call the lice squad or at least pick up some of their magical enzyme lice killer treatment (I think it’s called nit pickers secret). This is not a pesticide – not at all harmful to people – but uses a protein enzyme to kill the bugs. This gets you part of the way there. Then the picking/combing begins. You repeat the treatment every 4 days in order to get any bugs that hatched from the eggs you missed. Secondly, make sure you are killing those live suckers in your video – pinch them with a fingernail!

As one of the “lice ladies” at school – yes, I volunteered for that glamorous position – I agree with Nancy. Focus on the heads, not the laundry. When my daughter had lice I found it easier to remove the entire hair rather than try to comb the nit out. It’s not any faster because you still have to hunt them all down, but it’s surprisingly much less painful. I feel for you.

I thought I would hit the highway and never return if this ever came into my house.
It did and I almost lost it
I say “hard to get, but impossible to get rid of”
Worry less about laundry as they cannot live for more than 24 hours off the head
and focus on the nit picking and treating of each head
good luck. I feel you.

Oh my. I shudder just thinking about it. Hope you are rid of them once and for all, oh so soon!!!
