This year I am walking in the Relay for Life for the first time. I am the team captain and we have raised over $2000 for cancer research.
The walk is this Friday and I’m looking forward to the camaraderie. I’m also dreading a night with not sleep as I’m already sooo exhausted. I think it will be a very emotional experience for me, for our team is called Team Maddy.
And, even though he didn’t die of cancer, my dad’s death is very fresh. So fresh that I haven’t even processed it yet.
Sometimes this is a hard knock life we live and it’s hard to stay positive but I’m trying. We lose many people way to early, and I think I may have lost more than many, but certainly fewer than many also.
So many people care give up their time to raise money for cancer research. My friend Bob, a cancer survivor, and my cousin Britta, ride for cancer every year. A grueling two day ride. Other friends of mine walk for several days for Breast Cancer research. I know a group of people who ride for AIDS research, all the way from Toronto to Montreal!
I think most of us do what we can, we raise money or we donate money or we caretake our loved ones when they are ill.
So, if you would like to, no pressure here, sponsor out team. Or sponsor someone else you know who is raising money. Hey, it’s not too late to join our team if you want to!
If you’re around Trout Creek, Ontario this Friday drop by and see us. There will be food vendors and live music, games for kids, and a 2 am baseball game.
Here’s a link to my Relay site if you are interested, again, no pressure.
Do you participate in fundraising for research? If so, what organizations and why.

What a great thing you’re doing, Erin! And the time might help you process some feelings as well…
I wish I could donate to everything that comes in my direction – there’s always something! I think I just choose based on what I can do at the time – all of the organizations are good, and research is so very important… I wish I could say yes to everything, but I know it’s better just to say yes to what you can, whenever you can.
Have a GREAT walk on Friday – I hope the weather holds. Enjoy yourself!! xox

That’s a terrific thing you’re doing, Erin! We donate to a few causes close to home also… sometimes it a family member or a neighbour working on a project we’re happy to contribute to, though I always wish I could donate to all the fundraisers that come my way. There’s really no rhyme or reason to our “system” – it’s usually just something that comes up that I can do that day, or that month…
Have a GREAT DAY on Friday! I hope the weather holds, and that it’s a lot of fun too!! xox

Good for you Erin! Maybe it will be just what you need to help you along during this sad time. You have lost too many. I walk for Autism every year – well….I fund raise and then I help my sister run the event so I technically don’t walk. It is the most incredible day. Friday, I’m going with her team to Montreal for the first walk there. An inspiring day AND poutine! What could be better!!!
